Thursday Mornings @ the Center

A series of three six-week sessions focused on the Fourth Domain of Mindfulness—Mind Objects and more.

Anyone who has explored any aspect of the early Buddhist teachings is aware of the fact that the teachings incorporate a great many lists.  This of course was a valuable technique in pre-literate times but can be at times confusing for our 21st century brains.

The purpose of this course, is not the lists themselves, but the categories of experience that they point to.  How do we fully integrate these teachings—whether it be the Five Hindrances, or the Seven Awakening Factors, or the Eightfold Path—into our daily lives?

The classes will be grounded in the Four Noble Truths that will be the lens of the exploration of the “mind-objects”, as specified in the Satipatthana Sutta through different sessions.

Each six-week session will criss-cross across the various objects, and look at each from a different perspective.  In other words, you can take all three sessions and expect to get a very large perspective, or take any one session and expect a slightly smaller but still helpful perspective.

Suitable for anyone who has completed an Insight 101 or Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course. 

*Registration fee does not include teacher support.

Teacher support: Suggested starting donation is $15 per session but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated. All donations go to support the teacher(s).

Jon Aaron

Jon Aaron Jon Aaron has been a teacher at New York insight since 2006.  His principal dharma teacher has been Matthew Flickstein of The Forest Way. He trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and is a certified teacher through the CFM. He has taught over 50 cycles of the seminal curriculum as well as numerous courses for alumni of the program. He completed the Integrated Study and Practice Program at the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies and the Foundations in Buddhist Contemplative Care at the New York Zen Center for Contemplative Care.  He is the co-guiding teacher of the Makom Meditation Havurah program at the Jewish Community Center. He is a certified Somatic Experience Practitionertm and has most recently completed the teacher training in Mindfulness for Pain offered by Breathworks in England.
