Evening Talk & Book Signing: The Practice of Effortless Mindfulness
Loch Kelly
Fee by donation; no pre-registration necessary

September 25, 2015
07:00 pm - 09:00 pm

Shift into Freedom is one of those rare and invaluable books that awakens trust in what is possible in this very life, right now.  With wisdom, clarity and care, Loch Kelly offers teachings and practices that directly evolve consciousness and liberate the heart."

―Tara Brach, Ph.D.  Author of Radical Acceptance and True Refuge

In one of the Tibetan Buddhist traditions, meditation is taught in two stages. The first is deliberate mindfulness, which includes one-pointed focus and nonjudgmentally observing the changing contents of our mind and body. The second part is called effortless mindfulness, not because no initial effort is made, but because of the discovery of an awareness that is already awake and able to focus without effort.

We can begin with deliberate mindfulness as a good foundation, or start with effortless mindfulness. In this evening we will learn how to unhook awareness from thinking and have it turn around to be aware of awareness. Then awareness can know your body, emotions, and thoughts from within. This is a shift from a thought-based operating system to an embodied awareness-based way of seeing and being.

Please join Loch Kelly, author of Shift into Freedom: The Science and Practice of Open-Hearted Awareness, for this evening talk, meditation, and book signing.

Loch will be offering a day-long retreat the following day taught at NYI called "The Practice of Heart Mindfulness" on Saturday, September 26th. Please go to Loch's website for information and registration.  Loch's Book and Audio Meditations can be found here.
