In a continuing effort to ensure New York Insight is a welcoming refuge for all, NYI sangha members are gathering to walk in this year's PRIDE march in solidarity and support of the LGBTQ community.
All are welcome to march in this event.
Be a part of the biggest Pride Celebration in the world!
The first March was held in 1970 and has since become an annual civil rights demonstration. Over the years its purpose has broadened to include recognition of the fight against AIDS and to remember those lost to illness, violence and neglect.
We will be joined by over 300 unique marching contingents, representing a vast array of non-profits, community organizations, corporate sponsors, small businesses, political candidates and activists!
Here are the details for marching with New York Insight at Pride this year:
--NYI is in Section 9, 38th Street between Fifth & Madison Avenues
--arrival time is 12:30pm, our group starts marching at 1pm
--Fifth Avenue below 42nd street will be closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic at 11:00 AM; therefore, you must enter the formation area in a manner that avoids crossing 5th avenue, enter via Sixth Avenue or Madison/Park. Or If you need to cross to Madison or Park, please do so on 42nd Street.
--We'll be passing out flyers with information about Insight Out Refuge (the new LGBTQI sangha at NYI) and carrying an NYI banner (which we'd love to have a rotation for carrying)
--please wear white shirts
--for comfort, wear comfortable walking shoes (the route is 2 miles), sunscreen, sunglasses, and bring water
--march organizers ask that no one bring backpacks
