No previous meditation experience is required.
This sitting group provides instruction in insight meditation and fosters mutual support and understanding among the growing community of people of color who find nourishment and inspiration in the practice.
Fee by donation: Suggested starting donation is $15 but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. For this event all donations are split evenly between the teacher(s) and NYI.

Kate Johnson loves working at the intersections of spiritual practice, social action and creativity. A longtime practitioner in the Insight Meditation tradition, she trained as a teacher at The Interdependence Project and will soon graduate from the IMS/Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader Training under the mentorship of Gina Sharpe. In addition to teaching meditation at IDP, MNDFL and the Rubin Museum, Kate also teaches mindful yoga in NYC public schools through Bent on Learning. She holds a BFA in Dance from The Ailey School/Fordham University, an MA in Performance Studies from NYU. Her first book, about waking up to power and oppression as spiritual practice, will be published by Parallax Press in Fall 2017.
