This sitting group provides instruction in insight meditation and fosters mutual support and understanding among the growing community of people of color who find nourishment and inspiration in the practice.

No previous meditation experience is required.

Fee by donation: Suggested starting donation is $15 but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. For this event all donations are split evenly between the teacher(s) and NYI.

Leslie BookerBooker brings her heart, wisdom, and compassion to the intersection of social justice, yoga, and mindfulness. She offers lectures, workshops, and retreats across the country utilizing the foundation of Dharma along with embodied wisdom practices to support the sustainability of front line changemakers, and those in direct service. She has been sharing the practices of mindfulness and yoga to incarcerated and system-involved youth since 2007, currently serving as the Director of Trainings for Lineage Project, and brought mindful yoga and meditation to the 2012 Democratic National Convention. She co-founded the Yoga Service Council at Omega Institute and Urban Sangha Project in NYC. Booker is on faculty with the Prison Mindfulness Institute, Spirit Rock’s Mindful Yoga and Meditation training, and Off the Mat, Into the World. She is a graduate of Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leader’s Training, and is a nominee for the 4year Dharma Teacher Training. LeslieBooker.com
