Tea with Thay
Tea meditation is a time to be with the Sangha in a joyful and serene atmosphere. Just to enjoy our tea together is enough. It is like a “good news” occasion, when we share our joy and happiness in being together.
At times, when we are drinking tea with a friend, we are not aware of the tea or even of our friend sitting there. Practicing tea meditation is to be truly present with our tea and our friends. We recognize that we can dwell happily in the present moment despite all of our sorrows and worries. We sit there relaxed without having to say anything. It is an opportunity for us to water the seeds of happiness and joy, of understanding and love in each one of us.
The Tea with Thay evening will include:
- Meeting each other.
- Colors of Compassion, a 50-minute video retreat of the first people of color retreat at Deer Park wth Venerale Thich Nhat Hanh, ending with the amazing five mindfulness trainings.*
- Tea meditation, starting in silence and then some opportunity to connect... perhaps pouring each other tea.
- Talk and socializing
*The video retreat features moments from Dharma talks by Zen Buddhist Master Thich Nhat Hanh and insights from practitioners on first People of Color retreat, including an amazing passing of the five mindfulness trainings.
Fee by donation: Suggested starting donation is $15 but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. For this event all donations are split evenly between the teacher(s) and NYI.
