The Basics of Mindful Eating

Do you eat when you are stressed out, bored or sad? Have you tried to eat more healthfully but just can’t seem to stick with it?

In this introductory, interactive, two hour presentation, Laurence Magro will outline the scientific basis of how we form eating habits and how we can use this knowledge to change them. Through exercises and dialogue, we will examine how mindfulness practice can facilitate (1) the exploration of our relationship to food and eating and (2) the development of practical skills towards a sustainable, healthy, balanced relationship to this life sustaining activity.

The registration fee includes teacher support. If you wish to give more in addition to the registration fee, the total (registration fees and additional contributions) will be shared between NYI and the teacher(s).

We offer new sliding scale fees, and ask that you choose the highest fee you are able to afford based on your financial means. The Sustaining rate represents the actual program operating cost. If you can afford this level or higher, you assist our efforts to offer reduced rates and support ongoing financial assistance. Laurence Magro

Laurence Magro, MS, MBA, LMHC is a psychotherapist and certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher (UMass Center for Mindfulness) specializing in mindfulness-based therapies and integrative approaches. For the last 15 years as a practicing therapist and mindfulness trainer with a personal yoga, Qigong and meditation practice, Laurence has drawn on Eastern contemplative traditions and recent advances in mind/body research to inspire and empower people to heal and grow.

Laurence has taught a wide range of training programs to organizations, healthcare professionals and educators. She is a qualified instructor of the Eat Right Now program developed by addiction and behavioral health expert Dr. J. Brewer M.D (Brown University) to support individuals wishing to change their relationship to food and eating.
