In this daylong retreat we will focus on ways to bring a light heart and clear mind to our recovery program. We will explore ways to cultivate joy using traditional Buddhist mindfulness teachings, 12 Step teachings, and contemporary practices for increasing happiness and contentment.
The day will include:
- Silent meditation for developing calm and insight
- Interactive exercises to uncover blocks to happiness and reveal tools for uplifting our hearts
- Lecture and discussion
Teacher support: Suggested starting donation is $40 but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. All donations go to support the teacher(s).

Kevin Griffin is the author of the seminal Buddhist recovery book, One Breath at a Time: Buddhism and the Twelve Steps and teaches internationally on that topic. His latest book, Recovering Joy: A Mindful Life after Addiction was recently published by Sounds True. A meditation teacher for two decades, he trained at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, where he currently leads dharma and recovery classes. He has been in recovery since 1985.
Sandra Weinberg is a co-founder and member of the Board of Directors of NYI. She has studied the Dharma and practiced mindfulness meditation for over 30 years and is a graduate of the first Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leaders Program. She is a psychotherapist in private practice in New York City.
