These teacher-led sittings provide an opportunity for the Sangha to meet with NYI teachers for meditation, a Dharma talk and dialogue to address practice issues.
Fee by donation: Suggested starting donation is $15 but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. For this event all donations are split evenly between the teacher(s) and NYI.
Sebene Selassie is a meditation teacher and certified Integral Coach®. She has been studying Buddhism since majoring in Comparative Religious Studies as an undergrad at McGill University. For over 20 years she worked with children, youth, and families nationally and internationally for small and large not–for–profits. Her work has taken her everywhere from the Tenderloin in San Francisco to refugee camps in Guinea, West Africa. She aspires for her practice and teaching to be authentic, relational, pragmatic, and joyful.
Karen G. Williams is a graduate from the Spirit Rock Community Dharma Leader Training Program and has practiced vipassana meditation since 2008. Karen G. recently received her doctoral degree in cultural anthropology from the CUNY Graduate Center. Her research examines strategies implemented inside correctional facilities to help incarcerated people return home to their communities. When Karen is not teaching at Queens College, she can be found playing roller derby with Gotham Girls Roller Derby League. She plays under the name “BackAlley Dred” for the Bronx Gridlock and the Grand Central Terminators. Her practice is rooted in cultivating a spirit of whole heartedness on and off the track.
