SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, July 15th\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body? \nIn fact\, tai chi is often referred to as “meditation in motion.” This practice is one of slowing down while still feeling energized\, and learning to relax our muscles while maintaining precision. \nThis practice is well-suited to do before sitting meditation—tai chi is one way to get in touch with the wholeness of the breathing body. Some benefits of tai chi include improved muscle strength\, balance\, and flexibility\, and an increase in energy and focus. \nAll are welcome! No previous experience with tai chi is required to join the sessions. You are free to sign up for a single session\, the whole series\, or anything in-between. This series runs from July 1st through July 22nd. \nThis offering is part of New York Insight’s Mindful Movement series. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below for one or more sessions in this series. (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Silencing Your Inner Critic - A Guide to Self-Compassion in Tough Times
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Silencing Your Inner Critic – A Guide to Self-Compassion in Tough Times \nwith Gary Singer \nThursday\, July 16th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nEven\, and perhaps especially\, when the world seems out of control\, the practice of self-love is an essential tool to make sure we remain connected to our values and sense of right and wrong. \nIndeed\, compassion is foundational to the Buddha’s teachings. That means compassion for all beings\, even ourselves. Nevertheless\, most of us have an easier time extending compassion to others than to ourselves. \nOver the course of two hours\, we’ll use mindfulness to investigate how we treat ourselves in the privacy of our own minds. Why does our Inner Critic tend to treat ourselves worse than we would anyone else? What stories might we be telling about ourselves and others that might simply be untrue? Can we stop the incessant comparison to others? Can we finally befriend ourselves? \nTogether\, we’ll touch upon how we might become aware of difficult emotions\, recognize the common humanity in our struggles\, and accept ourselves with greater kindness and compassion. The more we’re at peace with ourselves\, the more peaceful we are with others and the world. \nExperienced meditators and those brand new to meditation are welcome. \nBring your curiosity! \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below to attend in-person. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! \nBring a Buddy: If you are a member of our Circle of Friends\, you’re invited to bring a Dharma buddy to this program for no additional cost. Simply select “1” from the drop-down next to the Bring a Buddy level\, and enter your special discount code (provided in your Circle of Friends welcome email) to reduce the price to that of a single\, standard registration. This registration will grant attendance for you and your buddy. \n \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nPlease register below to attend online via Zoom. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! \nBring a Buddy: If you are a member of our Circle of Friends\, you’re invited to bring a Dharma buddy to this program for no additional cost. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The Concentration Algorithm - Turning Distraction into Practice

You sit down to meditate\, and within seconds your mind is pulled away by thoughts\, sensations\, or emotions. Without a clear way to work with distraction\, this pattern can become frustrating and discouraging. Instead of building confidence and clarity\, practice starts to feel like a constant battle you’re losing. \nIn this daylong retreat\, you’ll learn a simple\, powerful “concentration algorithm” that turns distraction into the path of practice itself. Rather than fighting distractions\, you’ll systematically use them as your next object of focus. Over time\, this builds both stability and insight. \nYou’ll leave with: \n\nA clear\, step-by-step method for working with distraction instead of resisting it\nGreater confidence in your ability to focus\, even in the midst of a busy mind\n\nJoin us to transform distraction from your biggest obstacle into your most reliable teacher. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! \nBring a Buddy: If you are a member of our Circle of Friends\, you’re invited to bring a Dharma buddy to this program for no additional cost. Each stem\, each line\, each moment of placement becomes an opportunity to awaken your awareness and deepen your connection to the natural world. \nTogether\, we will explore the relationship between heaven\, earth\, and human\, using seasonal materials as our teachers. \nThis is a space to: \n\nCultivate mindfulness through creative practice\nLearn foundational ikebana techniques and principles\nExpress your unique voice through nature\nA deeper sense of calm and presence\nThe gift to create meaningful flower arrangements at home\n\nNo prior experience is needed—only curiosity and a willingness to see. No artistic experience required. \nSome ikebana equipment is required. You may have most at home\, but may need to purchase a kenzan. Participants will purchase their own flower material to practice. \nThe instructor recommends you gather the following materials early to practice at home after the first class: \n– 10-12″ dia. x 2.5″h suiban style container\n– 3″ dia. brass kenzan\n– flower shears\, or regular all-purpose scissors\n– note: no need to have flowers for the first class \nYou can purchase before class directly from Anjie: https://www.holisticspaces.com/ikebana \nor browse the suggested items from Anjie’s amazon store: https://www.amazon.com/shop/anjiecho \nNote: Equipment and flower material will be discussed in more detail in the first class. \nWhat you will receive from this course: \n\nAn introduction to\, or reconnection with\, sitting meditation\nAn understanding of how to connect with the qi (life force) of a flower\, and invite its wisdom into your mindfulness practice\nInstructional demonstrations on how to create ikebana arrangements\, interwoven with contemplative dharma art\, Buddhist\, and Taoist teachings\nBetween classes\, participants are invited to create flower arrangements to share during class\nPractical learning about ikebana equipment\, where to purchase\, and how to use\nA greater awareness of nature\, the environment\, and the world of flowers\nConnection with other meditators and people that love flowers and contemplative arts\n\nNote: This program will be recorded. Recordings will be sent to all registrants after each session\, so you are welcome to register even if you cannot attend one of the sessions. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:In-Person: Compassion as an Embodied Practice - A Half-day Yoga Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Compassion as an Embodied Practice – A Half-day Yoga Retreat \nwith Oneika Mays \nSunday\, July 19th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nThere is suffering in the world\, and many of us are asking: how do we respond? \nThis half-day retreat explores karuna (compassion) as embodied practice – putting compassion into action starting with yourself. Through therapeutic yoga and yoga nidra\, we’ll honor the body as sacred space\, learning to move with care rather than force. \nWe’ll spend most of our time in longer asana sequences designed to help you notice where you hold tension\, where you resist\, and how to tend to yourself with compassion. This is practice in motion\, meeting suffering right where you are in your own body. \nYou’ll learn to respond to your body’s wisdom\, to move in ways that support rather than push\, and to practice karuna as a lived experience. We’ll close with deep rest through yoga nidra. Everyone is welcome. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, July 22nd\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body?
