SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Beyond the Separate Self - Emptiness and the Freedom of Awareness
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Beyond the Separate Self – Emptiness and the Freedom of Awareness \nPart of The Body Remembers Freedom Series\n \nwith Kaira Jewel Lingo and My Tong\n \nThursday\, June 18th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWhat if the aliveness we call ‘me’ is not a solid thing at all\, but vast and open like the sky? \nIn this session\, we begin with meditation on awareness itself\, resting in the nature of consciousness and touching the spacious freedom that is always already here. From this ground\, we explore the teaching of not-self through playful group forms that invite us to hold and be held by one another’s stories. Together\, we discover that when the sense of a separate self softens\, what remains is not emptiness as absence\, but emptiness as connection\, intimacy\, and belonging. \nThis workshop is part of The Body Remembers Freedom\, a monthly series that brings together meditation\, dharma\, and embodied practice in a way that is relational\, grounded\, and alive. Each session includes time for meditation and contemplation\, a dharma talk or shared inquiry\, and InterPlay\, a playful and powerful practice using movement\, voice\, storytelling\, and deep listening to access the wisdom of the body. \nParticipants are supported to be: \n\nMore grounded and connected to their bodies and to one another\nMore accountable to themselves and to community\nReconnected to joy\, creativity\, and inner resource\nBetter able to meet life\, and themselves\, with compassion and presence\n\nIn times that can feel scary\, overwhelming\, or isolating\, these gatherings offer a place to put the phone down\, release accumulated stress\, and reconnect with what feels trustworthy and alive. We gather to remember the sacred in ordinary experience and to be held in the support of community. \nNo experience with meditation or movement is required. You are welcome exactly as you are\, with curiosity and a willingness to be present. \nThe Body Remembers Freedom is offered one Thursday a month from 6:30 to 8:30 pm ET and is offered in a hybrid format. During the InterPlay portion of the evening\, My Tong guides participants joining on Zoom\, while Kaira Jewel guides those attending in person. The full group then comes back together for the closing practice. You are welcome to register for a single session\, select multiple dates\, or join the full series at a discounted rate. \nSessions are recorded and shared with all registrants after the program\, so you are welcome to sign up even if you cannot attend live. \nRegister for one session or the full series (at a discount!) below.\n2026: June 18 | July 9 | August 6 \nIn-Person Registration:\nIn-Person Single Session\nIn-Person Full Series\n  \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nOnline Single Session\nOnline Full Series\n  \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. Volunteering allows you to participate in our programs at no cost. To inquire about volunteering opportunities\, please fill out our inquiry form\, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Right View\, Wise View\, No View
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Right View\, Wise View\, No View \nwith Jon Aaron \nTuesday – Friday\, June 23rd – 26th\, 2026 | 12:00pm – 1:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nThe beloved teacher Dipa Ma offered Ten Lessons to Live By\, drawn from a lifetime of immersion in the Dharma. The last of these lessons is “It’s a Circular Path.” \nHow true this is. The more you practice meditation and weave it fully into the fabric of daily life\, the more wisdom naturally unfolds. You think you’ve arrived at an end — only to discover it’s simply a new beginning. \nIn this short\, intensive 4-session class\, we will explore the first factor of the Noble Eightfold Path: Right View (Samma Ditthi). Right View is crucial for both our individual and societal awakening. It propels us onto the path\, and helps us to return to the practice and to clarity when we stray. \nRight View starts with the simple understanding of how to live a wholesome life\, and then becomes a direct seeing into the three qualities of existence—dukkha\, anicca\, and anatta\, followed by the embodied knowing of these qualities. How do you then live from this place? You may grasp it intellectually — but do you truly know it? Has it taken root in the body\, in your choices\, in how you move through the world? \nPerhaps\, with time and practice\, the view itself becomes so thoroughly lived that it ceases to exist as a view at all. It simply becomes who you are. \nParticipants should have completed at least an Insight 101/beginner class and have a basic understanding of the Four Noble Truths. \nNote 1: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nNote 2: If you cannot make all four days\, you are welcome to sign up for one or more individual days on a drop-in basis. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \nBring a Buddy: If you are a member of our Circle of Friends\, you’re invited to bring a Dharma buddy to this program for no additional cost. Simply select “1” from the drop-down next to the Bring a Buddy level\, and enter your special discount code (provided in your Circle of Friends welcome email) to reduce the price to that of a single\, standard registration. SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, June 24th\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body? \nIn fact\, tai chi is often referred to as “meditation in motion.” This practice is one of slowing down while still feeling energized\, and learning to relax our muscles while maintaining precision. \nThis practice is well-suited to do before sitting meditation—tai chi is one way to get in touch with the wholeness of the breathing body. Some benefits of tai chi include improved muscle strength\, balance\, and flexibility\, and an increase in energy and focus. \nAll are welcome! No previous experience with tai chi is required to join the sessions. You are free to sign up for a single session\, the whole series\, or anything in-between. This series runs from June 3rd through June 24th. \nThis offering is part of New York Insight’s Mindful Movement series. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below for one or more sessions in this series.

DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Touching the Sacred in the Ordinary – Finding Meaning\, Connection\, and Aliveness Right Where We Are \nPart of The Body Remembers Freedom Series\n \nwith Kaira Jewel Lingo and Linds Roberts\n \nThursday\, July 9th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWhat if the sacred is not something we have to seek out\, but something quietly waiting for us in the midst of our ordinary lives? \nThrough meditation\, embodied practice\, shared inquiry\, and moments of stillness\, we arrive more fully in the present moment\, softening the habit of overlooking what is here. Now my friend and I will continue to meet at 6:00am even without the structure of this program which seems like a great outcome.”  \n“I looked forward to a new meditation every morning. I found it both exciting and enriching to learn about all the different ways in which we can practice meditation. I took notes of what resonated most with me and I am still learning so much.” \n“My favorite aspect was the ability to learn and be in practice with different teachers. The live events were very much appreciated.”  \n“I enjoyed the whole concept and I really appreciated that  the offerings were all 20 minutes long—it made it sustainable at a certain time of day for me.” \n“I loved learning that there are many ways to connect to sangha online.”  \n“I enjoyed the surprise of not knowing the next guest or what they were going to bring.”  \n“This is an amazing program and the fact that I can revisit the meditations that were most meaningful to me is a plus.”

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: This Is It - The Opportunity of This Moment
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: This Is It – The Opportunity of This Moment \nPart of The Body Remembers Freedom Series\n \nwith Kaira Jewel Lingo and Linds Roberts\n \nThursday\, August 6th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWhat if this moment—just as it is—is already enough? In this closing session of the Body Remembers Freedom series\, we turn toward the immediacy of our lived experience\, discovering that the freedom we’ve been exploring is not somewhere else\, but right here in how we meet this moment. Through meditation\, embodied practice\, and shared inquiry\, we integrate what has been touched throughout the series—allowing insight\, presence\, and compassion to settle into the body and take root in our daily lives. We also take time to reconnect with our deepest aspirations for how we want to live\, sensing what feels most true and life-giving now. Whether you are returning or joining for the first time\, this session offers a space to arrive fully\, trust your inner knowing\, and explore what it means to live what we remember—right here\, in this moment. During the InterPlay portion of the evening\, Linds Roberts guides participants joining on Zoom\, while Kaira Jewel guides those attending in person. The full group then comes back together for the closing practice. \nSessions are recorded and shared with all registrants after the program\, so you are welcome to sign up even if you cannot attend live. \nIn-Person Registration:\nIn-Person Single Session\n  \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nOnline Single Session\n  \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. SUMMARY:Online: Understanding Anger - From Poison to Presence
DESCRIPTION:Online: Understanding Anger – From Poison to Presence \nA Trauma-Informed\, Four-Part Series with Amma Thanasanti \nThursdays\, September 10th – October 1st\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \n \nAnger is one of the most misunderstood experiences in contemplative life. We’re often taught to manage it\, release it\, or simply watch it pass. But anger can carry real intelligence — about what matters to us\, where our boundaries are\, what we’ve lost\, and where we need healing. \nThis four-part series offers something different: not a technique for getting rid of anger\, but a framework for understanding it more clearly — so it can become useful rather than destructive\, a doorway rather than a trap. \nAbout the Series \nAcross four sessions\, we explore four distinct families of anger: \n\nEveryday anger — the irritation\, frustration\, and friction of ordinary life. Left unexamined\, it accumulates into resentment and reactivity. Understood clearly\, it reveals what matters to us and offers early signal before the fire grows.\nDefensive anger — the anger that arises when a boundary is crossed or a value is violated. When it hardens\, it can tip into self-righteousness or aggression. When heard\, it carries the intelligence of protection and moral clarity.\nAttachment anger — the fire of disconnection\, longing\, and relational rupture. When it runs unconsciously\, it can drive the very disconnection it most fears. When understood\, it reveals how much connection matters — and what it needs in order to heal.\nProjective anger — when the charge of what we feel exceeds the present moment\, pointing toward something unresolved in ourselves. When unexamined\, it keeps us locked in cycles of blame and reactivity. When met with honesty\, it becomes one of the most direct pathways to self-understanding and healing.\n\nThroughout the series we will also explore how each of these families of anger shows up in our collective life — in polarization\, moral distress\, ecological anxiety\, and the erosion of community. This is not only personal work. It is also practice for staying human in difficult times. \nHow the Sessions Work \nEach two-hour session includes: \n\nA 30-minute guided meditation with multiple anchor options\nTeaching grounded in nearly 50 years of Theravada contemplative practice\, trauma-informed understanding\, and attachment theory\nOptional break-out inquiry or private journaling\nGroup discussion and Q&A\n\nAll experiential components are optional. You are in charge of your level of engagement throughout. Backing off or slowing down is understood as wise and skillful practice. \nThis is a mindfulness and educational series. It is not therapy and not a replacement for therapy. \nWho This Is For \nThis series is well suited for you if: \n\nYou have some meditation experience and want to work more skillfully with anger\nYou sense that your current practice hasn’t fully addressed your anger patterns\nYou’re curious about trauma-informed approaches to difficult emotions\nYou want to understand the difference between anger that needs to be heard and anger that needs additional support\n\nNo advanced practice is required. \nWho This Is Not For \nThis is not the right container for you if: \n\nYou are regularly destabilized and finding it difficult to regulate in daily life\nYou are looking for a space to process deep emotional wounds or traumatic memories — this series is educational\, not therapeutic\nYou are in an early stage of trauma recovery where educational content about anger might be activating without sufficient support in place\nYou are not yet connected to a therapist or support system and sense this series may be a substitute for one\n\nOnline Registration:\nPlease register below.
