SUMMARY:In-Person: Finding Joy in the Refuge of Uncertainty
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Finding Joy in the Refuge of Uncertainty\n \nwith Jon Aaron\n \nSaturday\, December 2nd\, 2023 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET\n \nLocation: NY Zendo Shobo-Ji at 223 East 67th Street\n \n\n  \nHolding the uncertainties in our individual lives can be challenging enough\, but when we add the uncertainties of society — war and violence\, the climate crisis\, political divisions\, and many more — it can be overwhelming. Can we turn toward this fact of life with Joy as opposed to fear and doubt? Is it even possible to treat this uncertainty as another kind of refuge? \nThis day of practice will integrate meditation\, chanting\, movement and dialogue to explore the nature of uncertainty. In the context of the three Refuges of Buddha\, Dharma\, and Sangha we discover how uncertainty itself can become a refuge. \nRegistration:\nPlease register at the highest level that your generosity offers.\nExplanations of levels follow below.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\nPlease contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance. \n \nRegistration Fees include Teacher Support\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has strehttps://www.nyimc.org/wp-admin/post-new.php?post_type=tribe_events#amlined the registration fee levels. SUMMARY:Online: Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That - A Daylong Retreat for Radical Self Care
DESCRIPTION:Online: Ain’t Nobody Got Time for That – A Daylong Retreat for Radical Self Care\n \nwith Gina LaRoche\n \nSaturday\, December 9th\, 2023 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET\n \n\n \n“If one knew oneself to be precious\,\nOne would guard oneself with care.” \nThis opening to chapter 12 in Gil Fronsdale’s translation of the Dhammapada has been a valuable source of support and guidance for practice. \nOn this retreat\, we will explore what it means to guard oneself with care during great uncertainty and tumult. We will find ways to nourish and sustain ourselves through moment-to-moment awareness\, all while letting go of the context and structure of time while experimenting with the retreat form. \nGina’s teaching style is to allow the context of the moment to determine the structure and outline of our time together. Our practice will incorporate mindfulness of body and breath (the first and second foundations of mindfulness) and open awareness. \nFormal kindness\, compassion\, and equanimity practice (Brahma Viharas) will also be woven throughout the day. The intention for this time is to carry what is learned from our formal practice into our day-to-day experience. \nDepending on the yogis attending\, a BIPOC-only practice time may be included. \n \nRegistration Fees include Teacher Support\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has streamlined the registration fee levels.
