SUMMARY:Online: New Year's Retreat - Liberating the Heart through the Practice of Generosity
DESCRIPTION:Online: New Year’s Retreat – Liberating the Heart through the Practice of Generosity\n \nwith Mona Chopra\n \nSaturday\, January 6th\, 2024 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET\n  \nAs we usher in a new year\, we are given an opportunity to slow down\, reflect\, and ask ourselves anew: How do I want to be in the world? \nIn the Buddhist tradition\, one of the pāramitās (perfections\, virtues) is generosity. Generosity (dāna) is much more than donating money or giving someone a thing of value. It is a way to cultivate seeds of compassion and wisdom\, and one of the fruits of spiritual practice. It is thus both the path and the fruition\, and it can bring about great joy. \nIn this half-day retreat\, we’ll explore the Buddhist teachings on generosity\, and consider for ourselves\, creatively\, imaginatively\, how we might expand and deepen our understanding of it. We will practice sitting meditation\, gentle movement\, and contemplative journaling.  We will use this time to enter the year feeling rested\, clear\, inspired and enlivened. \nRegistration:\nPlease register at the highest level that your generosity offers.\nExplanations of levels follow below.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\nPlease contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance. \n \nRegistration Fees include Teacher Support\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has streamlined the registration fee levels. Members of our Circle of Friends are eligible to receive 20% off of the Sustaining Rate via a code provided in the email confirming membership\, which you can enter after clicking the Sustaining Level registration. \n*Benefactor Level: Supports NYI’s ability to offer the Subsidized Base. \n**Sustaining Level: This level reflects the actual costs to support this program. Circle of Friends members eligible for 20% discount with code. Click here to join. \n***Subsidized Base: Made possible by the generosity of Benefactor Level above and other donations to ensure participation by those requiring financial assistance. \nIf you have questions about your registration (cancellation policy\, membership discount\, email confirmation\, etc.)\, please read our FAQs. If your question is not addressed in the FAQs\, please email registration@nyimc.org. \nIf you are unable to pay the Subsidized Base Fee\, you can learn about volunteering to offer work exchange and letting us know how much you are able to pay for this program by emailing registration@nyimc.org. \nPlease note that New York Insight records online programs. The recorded content may be discoverable should a legal matter arise. \nBy registering\, I give New York Insight permission to use my text/video/audio for educational or other purposes for the duration of New York Insight activities going forward. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact registration@nyimc.org. \n

SUMMARY:Online: Audacity - Your Gateway to Freedom
DESCRIPTION:Online: Audacity – Your Gateway to Freedom\n \nwith nico hase\n \nSaturday\, January 20th\, 2024 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET\n \n\n \nIs genuine awakening possible? For you? For me? In these times? In this life? \nTwenty-six hundred years ago\, in a time just as challenging as the one we live in today\, the Buddha had a simple answer: yes\, if we apply ourselves. \nBut that takes chutzpah\, otherwise known as adhiṭṭhāna parami (“determination” or “audacity”)\, and there are ten thousand cultural forces hellbent on weakening our resolve\, dispersing our attention\, and convincing us that enlightenment isn’t even a thing. \nWe have to push back. Like the Buddha did all those years ago\, when he had the audacity to take this path all the way to completion\, to the very end of mental and emotional suffering. \nIn this one-day online retreat\, nico will delve into adhitthana parami\, that quality of the heart that simply doesn’t give up\, that keeps you coming back to the path again and again. Which\, with consistent practice\, leads to the cultivation of peace\, joy\, and lasting happiness. \nThe day will begin with an hour of conversation and an opening talk around the theme. We’ll then sit and walk for four hours in lightly guided practice\, before reconvening for a closing talk and further dialogue. \nRegistration:\nPlease register at the highest level that your generosity offers.\nExplanations of levels follow below.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\nPlease contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance.\n \nRegistration Fees include Teacher Support\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has streamlined the registration fee levels.
