SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Transforming Confusion Into Wisdom - Buddhist Tantra & The 5 Wisdom Energies
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Transforming Confusion Into Wisdom – Buddhist Tantra & The 5 Wisdom Energies\n \nwith David Nichtern\n \nSunday\, June 1st\, 2025 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET\n \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor\n \n\n \nJoin renowned\, multiple Emmy-winning and Grammy-nominated musician\, meditation teacher\, and author David Nichtern for a transformative daylong workshop on Buddhist Tantra. \nThese powerful teachings are designed to transmute confusion and mental afflictions into wisdom. Through the lens of tantra\, we learn to engage directly with the raw energies of our emotions—anger\, desire\, fear—and transform them into sources of insight\, compassion\, and clarity. \nAt the heart of tantric practice are the teachings known as the Five Wisdom Energies\, which embody the enlightened qualities that arise when we skillfully navigate and integrate our emotional experiences. \nThese teachings describe how our emotional and psychological patterns—when met with awareness—can reveal deep\, awakened qualities of the mind. Each energy has both positive and counter-productive qualities\, and seeing and understanding them helps us recognize that our messy\, emotional lives are not obstacles to awakening—they’re actually part of the path. \nWhether you’re new to meditation or a longtime practitioner\, everyone is welcome to join us.\nThe day will feature meditation instruction and practice\, lectures\, and plenty of time for discussion. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n \nOnline Registration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: From the Cushion to the Streets - A Daylong Retreat Workshop on Engaging with the World
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: From the Cushion to the Streets – A Daylong Retreat Workshop on Engaging with the World\n \nwith Leslie Booker and Elaine Retholtz\n \nSaturday\, June 21st\, 2025 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET\n \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor\n \n \nWe find ourselves in a moment in time that is calling many of us to respond. But how to do this with care\, dignity and without adding to divisiveness? There is a long history of folks using their spiritual practice as a foundation and catalyst for activism\, and an equally long history of folks who realize that they need a spiritual practice to sustain their engagement. Marrying these two together is an art and practice that is both skillful and necessary.  \nDuring this daylong there will be time to practice together\, time to connect with others\, and time to engage in reflective processes to help us understand how we can best show up at this moment in time. \nThrough group connection\, individual reflection\, and dharma talks\, we’ll explore the following questions:  \n\nWhat is our role in this time in history?\nHow can we understand our personal “origin story”? What wakes us up—what’s important to us?\nHow can we connect with others? \nWhose shoulders are we standing on? How can looking to the past help us ground in the present? \nHow can our meditation practice support our active engagement with the world? \n\nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Turning Back to Ourselves - A Retreat for Women
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Turning Back to Ourselves – A Retreat for Women \nwith Dalya Tamir \nSaturday\, June 28th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWe often forget that we are worthy of love. We fall into patterns of judging and doubting ourselves\, forgetting our innate goodness and our sense of belonging. None of us want to abandon ourselves in these ways\, but as a result of messages we received throughout our lives\, and due to the structures of the society we live in\, we may find ourselves lost and far away from a deep and true way we once knew. Some of us may never have known that authentic self. \nAdditionally\, many women describe feeling over-extended\, chronically depressed\, or highly anxious. Others feel angry\, agitated\, or restless and cannot find a peaceful place within themselves. Some feel trapped\, believing that the unfulfilling life they are living is the only life they could ever live. \nThe path of Turning Back to Ourselves offers a way to heal the pain of self-abandonment and guides us back to reclaiming our aliveness\, joy\, and ease with ourselves. \nOver the course of this daylong retreat\, we’ll touch upon these themes and explore the ways Buddhist teachings can support us in returning to our wise and compassionate self. With guidance from teacher Dalya Tamir\, we’ll set an intention to no longer abandon ourselves and will apply mindfulness\, self-compassion\, and loving-kindness to move toward a wholesome relationship with ourselves. Our time together will include periods of silent meditation\, as well as time for reflection and sharing. \nThis retreat offers teachings that lift up women’s journeys of awakening. We welcome all who identify as women\, as well as non-binary folks who feel nourished in spaces centering women.  \nWe also invite you to learn more about Dalya’s course starting on July 10: Coming Home to Ourselves – A Four-Week Course for Women. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:In-Person: Sacred Homage - Nature Meditation at Chuang Yen Monastery
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Sacred Homage – Nature Meditation at Chuang Yen Monastery \nwith Lin Wang Gordon \nSunday\, June 29th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 3:00pm \nLocation: Meet in the parking lot of Chuang Yen Monastery\n2020 Route 301\, Carmel\, NY 10512\nSee below for more information on carpooling and access via public transportation \n \nJoin us for a contemplative day of meditation and reflection as we pay homage to the rich Buddhist lineage at the serene Chuang Yen Monastery\, nestled in the Town of Kent\, Putnam County. This sacred space is home to the largest indoor statue of Buddha in the Western Hemisphere and has been the residence of Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi since 2006\, alongside a vibrant and dedicated monastic community. \nDesigned by the world-renowned architect I.M. Pei\, the monastery’s breathtaking grounds provide a serene backdrop for contemplation. The elegant Kuan Yin Hall\, inspired by the architectural style of the Tang Dynasty\, was completed in 1985\, while the Great Buddha Hall\, where the Dalai Lama presided over the groundbreaking ceremony in 1989\, was finished in 1997. \nWe will begin the day by exploring the monastery’s beautiful halls\, soaking in the history and tranquility of the temple. After a vegetarian lunch provided by the monastery (prepared with care by volunteers who dedicate their weekends to this service)\, we’ll venture outdoors for a meditative experience on the lush grounds\, connecting with nature and deepening our practice. We will spend much of the day in silence. \nAbout Lunch:\nLunch is served from 12-1pm and is graciously provided by a team of volunteers who spend their weekends cooking and serving the community. As the monastery relies on donations to continue its work\, a suggested contribution of $7 per person is appreciated to help support this beautiful effort. \nBring: Please feel free to bring your own water and snacks\, and bug/tick repellent. \nA Few Guidelines for Your Visit:\nAs we visit a monastic community\, please be mindful of these guidelines to ensure a respectful and harmonious experience for all: \n\nBring only vegetarian foods—no meat\, fish\, or eggs.\nNo smoking or alcohol is allowed anywhere on the premises.\nRespect the flora and fauna: Please refrain from picking any plants\, flowers\, or vegetables\, and avoid disturbing or feeding any animals or fish.\nDrive cautiously: Keep your speed under 15 mph once you enter the monastery grounds\, especially in spring when small animals are more active.\nPark in designated areas only.\nDress appropriately: Please avoid wearing costumes\, tank tops\, or mini skirts.\nNo photography or video is allowed\, and drones are prohibited to maintain the peace and serenity of the space.\n\nLocation and Meeting Time\n\nLocation: 2020\, Route 301\, Carmel\, NY 10512\nMeeting Time and Location: 10am at the parking lot of the monastery\n\nHow to Get There:\n\nCarpooling: After registering\, please fill out the carpooling survey you will receive in your confirmation email to let us know if you can offer a ride or need one. If you can\, your generosity in providing a ride is greatly appreciated. We’ll coordinate rides a week before the event.\nPublic Transportation: Take the Metro North (Hudson Line) at Grand Central (leaves at 7:55am) to Cold Spring station (arrives at 9:15am)\, then take an Uber/Lyft to the monastery (~20 minutes). One way off-peak ticket is $15.25. On the return trip\, take the 3:30pm train at Cold Spring\, and return to Grand Central at 5:01pm. We will also try to coordinate carpools from the train station when possible. Please note\, the cost of the train ticket is not included in the registration fee.\n\nRegistration:\nNote: After registering\, please fill out the carpooling survey linked in your confirmation email. Registration will close on Thursday\, June 26 to ensure we can coordinate everyone’s transportation. \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.
