SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Coming Home to the Body - A Daylong Meditation Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Coming Home to the Body – A Daylong Meditation Retreat \nwith Chas DiCapua \nSaturday\, May 9th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWe spend much of our lives with attention directed outward\, seeking fulfillment through distraction\, consumption\, and busyness. The Buddha described the gap between what we are experiencing and where our attention is as stress. \nThis daylong retreat offers an alternative. Through sitting and walking meditation\, the Resident Teacher at the Insight Meditation Society\, Chas DiCapua will guide participants in body-based awareness practices\, including awareness of the breath\, that bring attention back to the present moment. When the mind settles into the body rather than chasing after the next thing\, we can begin to access qualities already present in us: sympathetic presence\, expansiveness\, and ease. \nThis retreat is suitable for practitioners at all levels who want to deepen their relationship to the body as a foundation for meditation practice and daily life. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \nBring a Buddy: If you are a member of our Circle of Friends\, you’re invited to bring a Dharma buddy to this program for no additional cost. Simply select “1” from the drop-down next to the Bring a Buddy level\, and enter your special discount code (provided in your Circle of Friends welcome email) to reduce the price to that of a single\, standard registration. This registration will grant attendance for you and your buddy. \n \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nPlease register below for online participation via Zoom. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Meeting the Parts That Disturb Our Peace - A Mindfulness-Based IFS Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Meeting the Parts That Disturb Our Peace – A Mindfulness-Based IFS Writing Workshop \nwith Tracy Cochran and Beej Christie Karpen \nSaturday\, May 2nd\, 2026 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nDid you ever wonder why meditative states don’t last? How moments of spacious awareness can so quickly give way to painful\, constricted states? \nThese states are often driven by our inner children—the hurt\, wounded ones and the slightly older ones trying their best to defend them. \nThis unique half-day workshop weaves together guided mindfulness meditation\, reflective writing\, and gentle inquiry. Through the transformative framework of IFS (Internal Family Systems)\, participants are invited to cultivate a compassionate relationship with their inner world. \nOur inner parts will be welcomed and gently investigated—allowing a deeper wisdom and awareness to emerge. In IFS this wise\, embodied Presence is called Self. In Buddhism this same spacious state is called No Self—in both it is an attention that heals us into wholeness. \nThis workshop is suitable for both experienced meditators and newcomers\, offering practical tools for daily life\, creative expression\, and compassionate self-understanding. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The Heart of Addiction - Working with Shame\, Repairing Attachment Wounds
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: The Heart of Addiction – Working with Shame\, Repairing Attachment Wounds \nwith George Haas \nSaturday\, April 11th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nAddiction often runs deeper than the behaviors we’re trying to change. It’s tied to patterns of craving\, emotional overwhelm\, and disconnection that can be difficult to interrupt on our own. \nThis daylong retreat is open to anyone interested in understanding these patterns more deeply\, whether you’re in recovery or simply exploring the relationship between meditation\, attachment\, and addiction. \nMeditation teacher George Haas brings together Buddhist practice\, attachment repair\, and G. Allan Marlatt’s work on relapse prevention to offer a practical way of working with these dynamics. \nDrawing on over two decades of teaching\, his approach focuses on how relational patterns shape craving\, emotional regulation\, and our capacity for connection. \nYou’ll learn how to stay present with urges without immediately acting on them\, work with difficult emotional states like shame\, anger\, and depression\, and begin building forms of connection that feel more stable and supportive. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The Path Through a Broken Heart
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: The Path Through a Broken Heart \nwith Jon Aaron \nSaturday\, April 4th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIt’s impossible to move through life without experiencing heartbreak—the loss of a loved one or relationship\, the end of a job\, the dissolution of home\, culture\, or way of life. The dharma path of mindfulness and compassion teaches us not to bypass this pain\, but to walk directly through it: to know it fully\, and to discover freedom within it. \nIn these three hours of practice\, we will explore how to fully inhabit the broken heart\, releasing ourselves from the grip of our stories—the “What ifs\,” the “If onlys\,” the “I should haves”—and open to what is actually here. This is done with an intention of kindness\, humor and joy. \nThis retreat will include various forms of meditation including chanting\, prostrations\, sitting and walking practice. \nIt is hoped that participants will leave feeling as though a weight has been lifted from their lives. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Am I Supposed To Be OK With This? Practice at the Cutting Edge
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Am I Supposed To Be OK With This? Practice at the Cutting Edge \nwith Paul Fulton \nSunday\, March 29th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWhen we give ourselves wholly to practice\, we find we are standing at the edge; the edge between what we can accept and what we cannot; the edge between what we understand and what we do not; the edge of clinging and letting go. Even as our practice matures and those edges move to embrace more\, a vital meditation practice always locates us at these cutting edges. \nOver the course of this interactive half-day retreat\, together we’ll inquire about these (and other) edges with reference to your own active\, living challenges. \nWe will explore the balance between leaning into difficulty vs. seeking safety; restraint from ingesting a world of toxic news vs. opening up and bearing witness; practicing in a manner that supports openheartedness without losing our shit; equanimity and acceptance vs. indifference and numbing; and\, your own cutting edge. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Embodied Awareness - Finding Inner Safety through Somatic Meditation
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Embodied Awareness – Finding Inner Safety through Somatic Meditation \nwith Kathy Cherry \nSunday\, March 22nd\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn Buddhist teachings\, the image of someone swept down a fast-moving river—grasping at reeds and branches that cannot hold—mirrors how we cling to familiar thoughts\, emotions\, and identities when safety feels uncertain. In this daylong retreat\, we will explore this metaphor as a doorway into understanding our own nervous system. We’ll use the spirit of these teachings to illuminate how our survival responses express an intelligent body seeking stability. \nThroughout the day\, you’ll have repeated opportunities to slow down\, practice\, and directly experience how safety becomes more available through embodied awareness. Through somatic meditation\, mindfulness\, Somatic Experiencing® techniques\, gentle movement\, guided inquiry\, and shared reflection\, you’ll learn to listen to sensation\, pace your experience\, and allow your system to settle. \nAs groundedness grows\, clarity and choice naturally emerge. This retreat is open to all; practices are gentle\, invitational\, and adaptable to your needs. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Work Sex Money Dharma - Full Weekend Retreat + Online Series
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Work Sex Money Dharma – Full Weekend Retreat + Online Series \nwith Martin Aylward \nHybrid Weekend Retreat: Saturday and Sunday\, March 14-15\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET\nOptional Online Follow-Up Sessions: Tuesday – Thursday\, March 17-19\, 2026 | 12:00pm – 1:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nAcross many wisdom traditions\, spiritual practice has often followed two broad paths. One emphasizes stepping away from the entanglements of ordinary life in pursuit of clarity and awakening. Another invites us to engage life fully and use its challenges\, desires\, and responsibilities as the ground of practice. \nWork\, sex\, and money sit at the center of that tension. These domains shape how we relate to others\, how we organize our time and energy\, and how we understand intimacy\, ambition\, and security. They are also powerful places where our habits of mind\, fears\, and desires become visible. \nIn this immersive weekend retreat\, meditation teacher Martin Aylward invites participants to bring mindful attention to these deeply human themes. Through meditation\, reflection\, and relational dialogue exercises sometimes described as “meditation out loud\,” we will explore how our conditioning around work\, intimacy\, and material security shapes the way we live and relate to others. \nOver the course of the retreat\, each theme will be explored in depth. Participants will examine their relationship to work and livelihood\, intimacy and sexuality\, wealth and security\, and how these areas intersect with their values and spiritual path. \nOptional online follow-up sessions during the week offer an opportunity to reconnect\, share reflections\, and continue integrating insights into everyday roles and relationships. \nAll sessions will be recorded and available for rewatching or future reference. \nIn-Person Registration:\nNote: The Tuesday-Thursday follow-up sessions are online-only\, even if you attend the weekend retreat in person. \nPlease register below. Through meditation\, reflection\, and group sharing\, we’ll discuss how both Buddhist and Black traditions teach us how to embrace paradox with grace—to hold grief and joy\, struggle and triumph\, as equal parts of the whole. \nIf you are Black\, Indigenous\, or a Person of Color\, we invite you to join us for this daylong retreat. \nNote: This program will be recorded. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Buddhist Psychology - Understanding Your Mind and The Abhidharma Teachings
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Buddhist Psychology – Understanding Your Mind and The Abhidharma Teachings \nwith David Nichtern \nSaturday\, January 31st\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn order to free ourselves from deeply ingrained patterns of confusion that lead to unnecessary pain and suffering\, the Buddhist tradition offers a comprehensive philosophical system that examines in great detail how our mind works—including our psychological habits\, mental fixations\, and emotional tendencies. This in-depth study of the architecture of the mind is called Abhidharma. \nThese teachings provide a systematic and nuanced map of how our consciousness operates—including how thoughts\, emotions\, feelings\, sensations\, and sense perceptions all come to arise and manifest in our moment-by-moment experience\, shaping how we understand and perceive our world. \nDeveloping our understanding of Abhidharma increases awareness of our habitual and counterproductive patterns of thought\, emotions\, and behavior and to modulate and release them. During this program we will be emphasizing the experiential aspect of these teachings: personal and transformational\, powerful and immediate. \nThis daylong workshop will include meditation practice and instruction\, talks and discussion. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:Online: What Can I Offer\, How Can I Care\, What Can I Lay Down?
DESCRIPTION:Online: What Can I Offer\, How Can I Care\, What Can I Lay Down? \nwith Leslie Booker \nSunday\, January 25th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nDue to the impending snow storm\, we have moved this program to be online only. \n \nIt can be hard for many of us to integrate what we’re hearing in dharma talks and practicing on the cushion\, into our everyday lives. \nAnd sometimes these 2600-year-old teachings are hard to reconcile with the level of complexity and nuance of our modern world. \nThe teachings on the Paramis\, the 10 attainments of the heart\, give us direct instruction on just how to do that. Considered the origin story of the Buddha\, they start with the basics: Dana (generosity)\, Sila (ethical conduct) Nekkhamma (renunciation). \nOn this Day of Practice\, we’ll be exploring what we can offer\, how we can care and what we can lay down in order to be released from our suffering. Weaving together early Buddhist stories\, lived experience and time for contemplation\, we’ll reflect on what these teachings offer around living from a generous heart\, acting ethically in a complex world\, and discovering the freedom that comes from letting go—of possessions\, identities\, and views that keep us bound. \nThis retreat is open to both new and experienced practitioners and will be a day of still and moving practices\, journaling\, dharma talks and discussion. \nNote: This program will be recorded. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The Joy of the Dhamma - A Special Event with Bhante Buddharakkhita
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: The Joy of the Dhamma – A Special Event with Bhante Buddharakkhita \nwith Bhante Buddharakkhita and Leslie Booker \nCo-Sponsored by Tricycle: The Buddhist Review \nSaturday\, January 10th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nNew York Insight\, in collaboration with Tricycle: The Buddhist Review\, is honored to welcome Bhante Buddharakkhita for a special daylong program exploring The Joy of the Dhamma. \nJoin us for a rare opportunity to practice with a senior monastic teacher whose life and teaching embody the dharma in both formal meditation and community life\, integrating inner practice with ethical action\, service\, and collective care. \nThe day will begin with a morning of guided practice and teaching from Bhante\, focused on joy as an essential and cultivated quality of the path. Participants will explore how joy functions within Buddhist practice as a source of energy\, clarity\, and continuity\, and how it can be intentionally cultivated to support wisdom\, compassion\, and resilience in daily life. Drawing on meditative experience and classical dharma teachings\, Bhante will examine how joy arises through mindful engagement with the heart-mind and the world\, and how it helps sustain practice over time. \nIn the afternoon\, Bhante will reflect on nearly twenty years of the Uganda Buddhist Centre\, which he founded and serves as abbot\, offering insight into what the dharma looks like when expressed through long-term commitment\, community building\, and service in the world. He will then be joined in conversation by Leslie Booker\, Guiding Teacher at New York Insight and the Centre’s first international guest\, for a dialogue on practice\, joy\, and the role of community in sustaining our spiritual path. \nParticipants will explore joy as a cultivated and supportive aspect of Buddhist practice\, gain insight into how the dharma is lived beyond formal meditation\, and reflect on what it means to sustain practice through service\, community\, and long-term commitment. \nWe hope you can join us for this day of practice\, reflection\, and conversation. All are welcome! \n\nThis program is brought to you by New York Insight Meditation Center and Tricycle: The Buddhist Review \nNote: This program will be recorded. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Embodied Equanimity in an Unruly World
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Embodied Equanimity in an Unruly World \nwith Rebecca Bradshaw \nSaturday\, December 13th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nEquanimity is often described as mental balance and even-mindedness in the face of the ups and downs of life. It is our true hope for peace in this world of wild change. But how is true equanimity possible given the enormous amount of suffering we experience both individually and collectively? How do we navigate toward an equanimous heart-mind as wide and spacious as the entire world? \nJoin Rebecca Bradshaw\, Guiding Teacher Emeritus of the Insight Meditation Society\, for a half-day retreat exploring how mental suffering can shift to an expansive and compassionate presencing. By building the capacity to hold our own pain\, we begin to be able to hold the world’s pain and unruliness as well. \nJoin us to explore the journey towards equanimity in our own practice. We will practice with embodied equanimity\, knowing this quality of freedom not only through our mind\, but also through our heart and abdomen\, all the way down to our contact with the steady Earth. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:In-Person: Guided Meditative Hike on Hook Mountain for Inner & Outer Exploration
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Guided Meditative Hike on Hook Mountain for Inner & Outer Exploration \nwith Lin Wang Gordon \nFriday\, November 28th\, 2025 | 9:45am – 3:00pm \nLocation: Meet at Rockland Lake State Park\, South Entrance\nRoute 9W and Lake Road\, Valley Cottage\, NY\, 10989\nSee below for more information on carpooling and access via public transportation \n \nInspired by movements to get outside on Black Friday\, we invite you to join us in the beautiful Hudson Valley for a guided\, meditative hike—an opportunity to reconnect with both the inner landscape and the natural world. \nThis hike takes the scenic route along the Long Path—into the Rockland Lake State Park and up Hook Mountain. Enjoy expansive vistas from only 1.5 hours outside of the city\, and an extraordinary area designated by the New York Audubon Society as an Important Bird Area. \nMuch of the hike will be observed in silence and we will integrate nature meditation practices throughout the day — allowing our senses to come alive and our sense of separateness to fall away.  Together\, we will cultivate a deeper intimacy with the land—and with our  inner landscape—moving through the day with reverence and presence. \nWe will foster a reciprocal mindset: as the land nourishes us\, we give back through gratitude\, awareness\, and care.  Through this shared exploration\, we will reflect on what it means to see the dharma in wilderness\, and to walk through the world with presence\, connection\, and awe. \nThe hike will be approximately from 10am – 3pm. \nWhen: 9:45am-3pm\, Friday\, November 28\, 2025 \nWhere: Rockland Lake State Park\, South Entrance on Route 9W and Lake Road\, Valley Cottage\, NY\, 10989. (Use “753 Route 9W” for Rockland Roots GPS. The park entrance should be one block ahead). It’s parking field #4. There is a picnic table under a big tree near the toll booth of the parking lot. \nLength and Elevation: Approximately 5.8 miles\, 698 ft elevation – Relatively moderate hike\, but there are sections of ups and downs\, please bring hiking poles and wear proper hiking shoes. \nMeeting Time: We’ll meet at a picnic table right next to the park lot at 9:45am.  Restrooms will be available. \nDrivers: Since not many people have cars in NYC\, if you do have one\, offering rides to your fellow hikers will be deeply appreciated.  We will try to coordinate rides to reduce the transportation cost either from the city or from the Tarrytown train station. \nExpect an $8 parking fee. Arrive by 9:45 a.m. and drive into the Rockland Lake State Park\, South Entrance on Route 9W and Lake Road\, Valley Cottage\, NY (299 Lake Rd. Valley Cottage\, NY\, 10989).  There is another parking lot about a mile further north on Route 9W (parking lot #2).  Please make sure you are at parking lot #4.  South Entrance parking lot is an open space with a lot of picnic tables and a large building complex. \nCarpool: We will coordinate carpooling a few days before the hike. Please register as early as possible and fill out the carpooling survey on the registration confirmation email\,  so we have ample time to coordinate carpooling. Registration is closed on EOD\, Tue. 11/25. \nPublic Transportation: Take the Metro North Hudson Line (~8:15-8:30 am) at Grand Central to Tarrytown Station by ~ 9:15am.  Take a 20-minute cab ride from Tarrytown to Rockland Lake State Park South Entrance on Route 9W and Lake Road\, Valley Cottage\, NY. (299 Lake Rd. Valley Cottage\, NY\, 10989).  We will try to arrange drivers to pick up participants from the train station whenever possible.  On the return trip\, you will take the ~3:57pm train back from Tarrytown to Grand Central.  Exact train schedule to be confirmed when it gets closer since it will run on a holiday schedule. \nThe program fee does not include transportation cost. \nWe aim to start the hike at 10:00 am and will walk to the trailhead together from the parking lot. \nBring:  \n\nHiking poles (please bring them if you have them)\nWear hiking shoes please\nComfortable athletic clothing in layers – (avoid cottons)\nRain gear if needed\nYour lunch and snacks\n1-2 liters of water\nA backpack\nSunscreen\nOrganic tick repellent (optional)\nOrganic bug repellent (optional)\n\nMaximum enrollment: 28 people. Registration will close at the end of Tuesday\, 11/25 to allow time to coordinate carpool. \n  \nRegistration:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Honoring the Grieving Heart
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Honoring the Grieving Heart \nwith Lama Rod Owens \nSunday\, November 9th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWe are living through a period of apocalypse\, a chaotic period of truth telling and unveiling. Many of us are struggling to make sense of the impact we are experiencing in our personal lives\, relationships\, and in our communities. \nTo move through this period\, we must rely on our capacity to grieve\, to touch into the sadness of change and loss and tend to it with compassion. In this compassion\, we can allow our hearts to break and in the breaking be held by the understanding that we are not alone in this grieving. \nOnce we allow ourselves to be in relationship with our grief\, then it can begin to teach us how to move through sorrow and hopelessness into clarity and connectedness. Yet most importantly\, our relationship to grief through compassion opens the space for joy and gratitude. \nJoin Lama Rod for a mid-autumn offering to yourself and your communities as the seasons change and the year comes to a close. Through evoking the sacred lineage of Ma Tara\, the female Buddha of liberatory compassion\, we will explore this liberating relationship with grief through guided ritual and energetic practice in order to open and resource our hearts to keep moving on. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:In-Person: Sacred Homage - Fall Foliage and Nature Meditation at Chuang Yen Monastery
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Sacred Homage – Fall Foliage and Nature Meditation at Chuang Yen Monastery \nwith Lin Wang Gordon \nSunday\, October 12th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 3:00pm \nLocation: Meet in the parking lot of Chuang Yen Monastery\n2020 Route 301\, Carmel\, NY 10512\nSee below for more information on carpooling and access via public transportation \n \nJoin us for a contemplative day of meditation and reflection amid the fall foliage at Chuang Yen Monastery in Putnam County. This sacred site\, home to the largest indoor Buddha statue in the Western Hemisphere\, has housed Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi and a vibrant monastic community since 2006. \nDesigned by renowned architect I.M. Pei\, the monastery’s serene grounds and elegant halls—the Kuan Yin Hall (1985) and the Great Buddha Hall (1997)\, inaugurated by the Dalai Lama—offer a peaceful setting for spiritual practice. The halls house 10\,000 mini buddhas and many antique Buddha statues. \nPast participants were deeply moved by the beauty and stillness of these sacred spaces\, as well as the opportunity to learn about the monastery’s history\, rituals\, and deep ties to the Buddhist lineage. \nWe’ll begin our day with quiet exploration\, meditating among the walkways and halls as we immerse ourselves in the presence of this living temple. After a lovingly prepared vegetarian lunch offered by monastery volunteers\, we’ll head outdoors to walk the grounds and appreciate the fall foliage\, connecting with the changing season\, the land\, and our practice. We will spend much of the day in silence. \nTestimonial from past participants: \n“Visiting the Chuang Yen Monastery\, learning about its history\, and spending time in its beautiful spaces with Lin and others from New York Insight was a very special treat.” \nAbout Lunch:\nLunch is served from 11:30am – 1:30pm\, and is graciously provided by a team of volunteers who spend their weekends cooking and serving the community. As the monastery relies on donations to continue its work\, a suggested contribution of $7 per person is appreciated to help support this beautiful effort. You are also welcome to bring your own lunch. \nBring: Please feel free to bring your own water and snacks\, and bug/tick repellent. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Connecting with the Source of Self-Compassion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Connecting with the Source of Self-Compassion \nwith Caverly Morgan \nSunday\, October 5th\, 2025 | 2:00pm – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nConnect with your compassionate nature.\nMany of us struggle to offer ourselves compassion because we are identified with a limited\, separate sense of self. This smaller self often feels inadequate\, unworthy\, or lacking the resources and knowledge to truly care for itself. This is the self that suffers. \nOpening our hearts transforms our lives\, granting us greater peace and resilience in the face of emotional challenges. We become happier and more satisfied. But when we cling to the notion of a limited self that must control everything and perfect every practice\, we amplify our suffering. We may even criticize ourselves for not being self-compassionate enough\, creating a vicious cycle of judgment and inadequacy. \nHowever\, when we connect with the heart of who we truly are—which is inherently wise\, loving\, and not separate from the whole—compassion flows effortlessly. It’s from this deep wellspring within our true nature that we can genuinely open our hearts to ourselves and others. \nThis workshop invites you to explore these profound questions: Who is the self in self-compassion? What is the heart that opens to ourselves\, others\, and life itself? Is there an “I” doing anything at all\, or are we simply resting in our true nature? \nWhen we awaken to our true nature\, we don’t bypass the world. We awaken to love it more fully. And self-compassion is the first expression of that love\, starting with the self we thought we were. \nJoin us as we access and embody loving Awareness\, where natural wisdom and compassion reside. \nWhat You’ll Learn:\n\nHow to respond to feelings of failure or inadequacy with kindness and care.\nHow to relate to difficult emotions with greater ease.\nHow to take the effort out of self-compassion practice.\nHow to access your true nature\, which is naturally compassionate.\nHow to rest in Being\, the heart of who we are.\n\nWhat You Can Expect:\n\nTeachings and Guided Meditations: Engage in insightful teachings and guided meditations to deepen your understanding and experience of compassion.\nDyads and Group Discussions: Connect with fellow participants through structured dyads and open group discussions\, fostering a supportive community.\nQ&A Sessions: Gain clarity and personal insights during interactive Q&A sessions with Caverly Morgan.\nJournaling: Reflect on your experiences and insights through guided journaling exercises.\n\nRecommended\, but not required reading: The Heart of Who We Are: Realizing Freedom Together \n  \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. Is it the memories of past experiences at NYI’s Yom Kippur retreats? \nIs there a belief that by going through the rituals of the day that somehow we will be forgiven? \nOr is it something deeper? An invitation to a journey of deep transformation? Trusting that if we are willing to go deep\, to face our fears\, regrets\, our karma that something unknown will emerge? \nWhile we are aware of the culture of “shul hopping\,” we strongly encourage you to stay for the entire day to engage in this internal and communal process of purification. \nAll are welcome to join us in this exploration.
