SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Attuning the Body & Mind Through Meditation
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Attuning the Body & Mind Through Meditation \nwith Peter Doobinin \nSaturday\, March 1st\, 2025 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor\n \n\nThe Buddha taught his students to be “in tune with the dharma.” In fact\, we might think of dharma practice as a process in which we learn to come into rhythm with ourselves and others. \nBut\, more often than not\, we’re out of tune. We live in a state of tightness\, stress\, and dis-ease. This quality of dissonance is indicative of the degree to which we’re cut off from the heart\, from our goodness\, from wisdom\, compassion\, love\, joy\, and peace. It’s a state in which we’re not able to function fully and effectively in our lives. \nIn following the Buddha’s path\, we learn to connect to the rhythm of life. In practicing breath meditation\, we learn to connect to and come into rhythm. In walking meditation\, we learn to maintain this elemental rhythm. Eventually\, we learn to extend this quality of being in tune to all our postures\, and in all our activities. More and more\, we are able to “tune in” to the happiness of the heart. \nThe day will include periods of sitting & walking meditation\, teaching\, and discussion. Some meditation experience is recommended\, but not required. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\n \nOnline Registration:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. Volunteering allows you to participate in our programs at no cost. To inquire about volunteering opportunities\, please fill out our inquiry form\, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Creativity and Meditation – A Daylong Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Creativity and Meditation – A Daylong Retreat \nwith Lani Miller\n \nSaturday\, March 15th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor\n \n\nBoth meditation and creativity involve opening to and allowing space for what is already present to emerge and be known. \nOver the course of this daylong retreat\, we will have the opportunity to explore and share how we experience and are inspired by the already present and inherent connection between these two ways of experiencing and opening to life. We will investigate how both meditation and creativity offer us ways to explore\, touch\, and express what really matters. \nWe will look at how creativity and art in all their manifestations can inspire us deeply\, and also offer the possibility of healing for ourselves and the world around us. Meditation can be part of and enhance this process\, by opening us to express and experience our creativity in deep\, meaningful\, and beautiful ways. We will consider how the sharing of our creativity combined with our spirituality can lead to positive and powerful transformation\, for ourselves and others. \nThis day will include short periods of meditation along with some time for creative processes. There will be time to explore within\, and participants will also be able to benefit from sharing their unique ways of experiencing and expressing creativity with each other. \nArtists\, meditators\, creatives\, and muses are warmly invited to participate in this day of practice. There will be time for group sharing and connection. \nSome previous experience with basic meditation practice is recommended. \nPlease bring along a notebook and/or paper\, pens\, and colored pencils or markers. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Silencing Your Inner Critic - A Guide to Self-Compassion in Tough Times
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Silencing Your Inner Critic – A Guide to Self-Compassion in Tough Times \nwith Gary Singer\n \nSaturday\, March 29th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nEven\, and perhaps especially\, when the world seems out of control\, the practice of self-love is an essential tool to make sure we remain connected to our values and sense of right and wrong. \nIndeed\, compassion is foundational to the Buddha’s teachings. That means compassion for all beings\, even ourselves. Nevertheless\, most of us have an easier time extending compassion to others than to ourselves. \nOver the course of this daylong retreat\, we’ll use mindfulness to investigate how we treat ourselves in the privacy of our own minds. Why does our Inner Critic tend to treat ourselves worse than we would anyone else? What stories might we be telling about ourselves and others that might simply be untrue? Can we stop the incessant comparison to others? Can we finally befriend ourselves? \nTogether\, we’ll touch upon how we might become aware of difficult emotions\, recognize the common humanity in our struggles\, and accept ourselves with greater kindness and compassion. The more we’re at peace with ourselves\, the more peaceful we are with others and the world. \nExperienced meditators and those brand new to meditation are welcome. \nBring your curiosity!
