SUMMARY:Online: The Dharma of Healthy Attachment
DESCRIPTION:Online: The Dharma of Healthy Attachment \nwith Jessica Morey \nSaturday\, June 6th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nOnline via Zoom \n \nHow do patterns of attachment shape our relationships\, and how might Buddhist practice help transform them? \nIn this daylong retreat\, we’ll explore the meeting point of contemporary Attachment Theory and Buddhist wisdom. Drawing on attachment research\, we’ll examine common insecure mindstates—dismissing\, preoccupied\, and disorganized—and how these habitual relational “views” can generate suffering in close relationships\, including parenting and caregiving. \nThrough guided meditation\, visualization\, and reflective inquiry\, we’ll explore what secure attachment feels like from the inside and how it resonates with core dharma teachings. Participants will be introduced to the Ideal Parent practice\, a contemplative method for cultivating an inner experience of reliable\, attuned\, and benevolent care. These practices are relevant both for our own attachment healing and for how we show up as attachment figures for others. \nTogether\, we’ll investigate how attachment patterns are not fixed traits but conditioned and trainable mindstates—and how healing attachment and deepening insight can mutually support one another\, from everyday relational challenges to profound awakening. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nPlease register below for online participation via Zoom. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \nBring a Buddy: If you are a member of our Circle of Friends\, you’re invited to bring a Dharma buddy to this program for no additional cost. Simply select “1” from the drop-down next to the Bring a Buddy level\, and enter your special discount code (provided in your Circle of Friends welcome email) to reduce the price to that of a single\, standard registration. This registration will grant attendance for you and your buddy. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. Volunteering allows you to participate in our programs at no cost. To inquire about volunteering opportunities\, please fill out our inquiry form\, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Coming Home to the Body - A Daylong Meditation Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Coming Home to the Body – A Daylong Meditation Retreat \nwith Chas DiCapua \nSaturday\, May 9th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWe spend much of our lives with attention directed outward\, seeking fulfillment through distraction\, consumption\, and busyness. The Buddha described the gap between what we are experiencing and where our attention is as stress. \nThis daylong retreat offers an alternative. Through sitting and walking meditation\, the Resident Teacher at the Insight Meditation Society\, Chas DiCapua will guide participants in body-based awareness practices\, including awareness of the breath\, that bring attention back to the present moment. When the mind settles into the body rather than chasing after the next thing\, we can begin to access qualities already present in us: sympathetic presence\, expansiveness\, and ease. \nThis retreat is suitable for practitioners at all levels who want to deepen their relationship to the body as a foundation for meditation practice and daily life. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The Heart of Addiction - Working with Shame\, Repairing Attachment Wounds
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: The Heart of Addiction – Working with Shame\, Repairing Attachment Wounds \nwith George Haas \nSaturday\, April 11th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nAddiction often runs deeper than the behaviors we’re trying to change. It’s tied to patterns of craving\, emotional overwhelm\, and disconnection that can be difficult to interrupt on our own. \nThis daylong retreat is open to anyone interested in understanding these patterns more deeply\, whether you’re in recovery or simply exploring the relationship between meditation\, attachment\, and addiction. \nMeditation teacher George Haas brings together Buddhist practice\, attachment repair\, and G. Allan Marlatt’s work on relapse prevention to offer a practical way of working with these dynamics. \nDrawing on over two decades of teaching\, his approach focuses on how relational patterns shape craving\, emotional regulation\, and our capacity for connection. \nYou’ll learn how to stay present with urges without immediately acting on them\, work with difficult emotional states like shame\, anger\, and depression\, and begin building forms of connection that feel more stable and supportive. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Embodied Awareness - Finding Inner Safety through Somatic Meditation
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Embodied Awareness – Finding Inner Safety through Somatic Meditation \nwith Kathy Cherry \nSunday\, March 22nd\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn Buddhist teachings\, the image of someone swept down a fast-moving river—grasping at reeds and branches that cannot hold—mirrors how we cling to familiar thoughts\, emotions\, and identities when safety feels uncertain. In this daylong retreat\, we will explore this metaphor as a doorway into understanding our own nervous system. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Work Sex Money Dharma - Full Weekend Retreat + Online Series
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Work Sex Money Dharma – Full Weekend Retreat + Online Series \nwith Martin Aylward \nHybrid Weekend Retreat: Saturday and Sunday\, March 14-15\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET\nOptional Online Follow-Up Sessions: Tuesday – Thursday\, March 17-19\, 2026 | 12:00pm – 1:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nAcross many wisdom traditions\, spiritual practice has often followed two broad paths. One emphasizes stepping away from the entanglements of ordinary life in pursuit of clarity and awakening. Another invites us to engage life fully and use its challenges\, desires\, and responsibilities as the ground of practice. \nWork\, sex\, and money sit at the center of that tension. These domains shape how we relate to others\, how we organize our time and energy\, and how we understand intimacy\, ambition\, and security. They are also powerful places where our habits of mind\, fears\, and desires become visible. \nIn this immersive weekend retreat\, meditation teacher Martin Aylward invites participants to bring mindful attention to these deeply human themes. Through meditation\, reflection\, and relational dialogue exercises sometimes described as “meditation out loud\,” we will explore how our conditioning around work\, intimacy\, and material security shapes the way we live and relate to others. \nOver the course of the retreat\, each theme will be explored in depth. Participants will examine their relationship to work and livelihood\, intimacy and sexuality\, wealth and security\, and how these areas intersect with their values and spiritual path. \nOptional online follow-up sessions during the week offer an opportunity to reconnect\, share reflections\, and continue integrating insights into everyday roles and relationships. \nAll sessions will be recorded and available for rewatching or future reference. \nIn-Person Registration:\nNote: The Tuesday-Thursday follow-up sessions are online-only\, even if you attend the weekend retreat in person. \nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! Through meditation\, reflection\, and group sharing\, we’ll discuss how both Buddhist and Black traditions teach us how to embrace paradox with grace—to hold grief and joy\, struggle and triumph\, as equal parts of the whole. \nIf you are Black\, Indigenous\, or a Person of Color\, we invite you to join us for this daylong retreat. \nNote: This program will be recorded. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Buddhist Psychology - Understanding Your Mind and The Abhidharma Teachings
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Buddhist Psychology – Understanding Your Mind and The Abhidharma Teachings \nwith David Nichtern \nSaturday\, January 31st\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn order to free ourselves from deeply ingrained patterns of confusion that lead to unnecessary pain and suffering\, the Buddhist tradition offers a comprehensive philosophical system that examines in great detail how our mind works—including our psychological habits\, mental fixations\, and emotional tendencies. This in-depth study of the architecture of the mind is called Abhidharma. \nThese teachings provide a systematic and nuanced map of how our consciousness operates—including how thoughts\, emotions\, feelings\, sensations\, and sense perceptions all come to arise and manifest in our moment-by-moment experience\, shaping how we understand and perceive our world. \nDeveloping our understanding of Abhidharma increases awareness of our habitual and counterproductive patterns of thought\, emotions\, and behavior and to modulate and release them. During this program we will be emphasizing the experiential aspect of these teachings: personal and transformational\, powerful and immediate. \nThis daylong workshop will include meditation practice and instruction\, talks and discussion. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:Online: What Can I Offer\, How Can I Care\, What Can I Lay Down?
DESCRIPTION:Online: What Can I Offer\, How Can I Care\, What Can I Lay Down? \nwith Leslie Booker \nSunday\, January 25th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nDue to the impending snow storm\, we have moved this program to be online only. \n \nIt can be hard for many of us to integrate what we’re hearing in dharma talks and practicing on the cushion\, into our everyday lives. \nAnd sometimes these 2600-year-old teachings are hard to reconcile with the level of complexity and nuance of our modern world. \nThe teachings on the Paramis\, the 10 attainments of the heart\, give us direct instruction on just how to do that. Considered the origin story of the Buddha\, they start with the basics: Dana (generosity)\, Sila (ethical conduct) Nekkhamma (renunciation). \nOn this Day of Practice\, we’ll be exploring what we can offer\, how we can care and what we can lay down in order to be released from our suffering. Weaving together early Buddhist stories\, lived experience and time for contemplation\, we’ll reflect on what these teachings offer around living from a generous heart\, acting ethically in a complex world\, and discovering the freedom that comes from letting go—of possessions\, identities\, and views that keep us bound. \nThis retreat is open to both new and experienced practitioners and will be a day of still and moving practices\, journaling\, dharma talks and discussion. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time.\n \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nPlease register below for online participation via Zoom. DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: The Joy of the Dhamma – A Special Event with Bhante Buddharakkhita \nwith Bhante Buddharakkhita and Leslie Booker \nCo-Sponsored by Tricycle: The Buddhist Review \nSaturday\, January 10th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nNew York Insight\, in collaboration with Tricycle: The Buddhist Review\, is honored to welcome Bhante Buddharakkhita for a special daylong program exploring The Joy of the Dhamma. \nJoin us for a rare opportunity to practice with a senior monastic teacher whose life and teaching embody the dharma in both formal meditation and community life\, integrating inner practice with ethical action\, service\, and collective care. \nThe day will begin with a morning of guided practice and teaching from Bhante\, focused on joy as an essential and cultivated quality of the path. Participants will explore how joy functions within Buddhist practice as a source of energy\, clarity\, and continuity\, and how it can be intentionally cultivated to support wisdom\, compassion\, and resilience in daily life. Drawing on meditative experience and classical dharma teachings\, Bhante will examine how joy arises through mindful engagement with the heart-mind and the world\, and how it helps sustain practice over time. \nIn the afternoon\, Bhante will reflect on nearly twenty years of the Uganda Buddhist Centre\, which he founded and serves as abbot\, offering insight into what the dharma looks like when expressed through long-term commitment\, community building\, and service in the world. He will then be joined in conversation by Leslie Booker\, Guiding Teacher at New York Insight and the Centre’s first international guest\, for a dialogue on practice\, joy\, and the role of community in sustaining our spiritual path. \nParticipants will explore joy as a cultivated and supportive aspect of Buddhist practice\, gain insight into how the dharma is lived beyond formal meditation\, and reflect on what it means to sustain practice through service\, community\, and long-term commitment. \nWe hope you can join us for this day of practice\, reflection\, and conversation. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Blessing Our Aliveness - Play\, Rest and Practice in Beloved Community
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Blessing Our Aliveness – Play\, Rest and Practice in Beloved Community \nwith Kaira Jewel Lingo \nSunday\, November 16th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nJoin Buddhist teacher Kaira Jewel Lingo for a daylong retreat about honoring the miracle of being alive. Through mindfulness\, play\, and rest\, we will deepen our connection to ourselves\, each other\, and the present moment. \nIn our hyper-connected\, fast-paced world\, we can forget how to rest and just be. When we slow down and remember our innate wholeness\, we touch a source of vitality and joy that is always available\, even in the midst of challenge. \nThis retreat invites us into beloved community: a space of compassion\, authenticity\, and shared presence where healing and transformation can take root. Together we will explore what it means to bless our aliveness—not by striving or achieving\, but by softening\, listening\, and allowing space for what is most real to arise. \nThe day will include guided meditation\, dharma reflections\, group sharing\, and InterPlay—a creative\, embodied practice using movement\, voice\, storytelling and stillness to awaken the wisdom of the body and nourish connection. Come as you are\, and leave refreshed\, inspired\, and more fully alive. There will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of Kaira Jewel’s two books: We Were Made for These Times: 10 Lessons in Moving through Change\, Loss\, and Disruption and Healing Our Way Home: Black Buddhist Teachings on Ancestors\, Joy\, and Liberation. \nEveryone is welcome\, regardless of experience with meditation or Buddhism. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Honoring the Grieving Heart
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Honoring the Grieving Heart \nwith Lama Rod Owens \nSunday\, November 9th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWe are living through a period of apocalypse\, a chaotic period of truth telling and unveiling. Many of us are struggling to make sense of the impact we are experiencing in our personal lives\, relationships\, and in our communities. \nTo move through this period\, we must rely on our capacity to grieve\, to touch into the sadness of change and loss and tend to it with compassion. In this compassion\, we can allow our hearts to break and in the breaking be held by the understanding that we are not alone in this grieving. \nOnce we allow ourselves to be in relationship with our grief\, then it can begin to teach us how to move through sorrow and hopelessness into clarity and connectedness. Yet most importantly\, our relationship to grief through compassion opens the space for joy and gratitude. \nJoin Lama Rod for a mid-autumn offering to yourself and your communities as the seasons change and the year comes to a close. Through evoking the sacred lineage of Ma Tara\, the female Buddha of liberatory compassion\, we will explore this liberating relationship with grief through guided ritual and energetic practice in order to open and resource our hearts to keep moving on. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The World Is Our Practice - Finding Presence and Peace in the Midst of It All
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: The World Is Our Practice – Finding Presence and Peace in the Midst of It All \nwith Jon Aaron \nSaturday\, September 27th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n\nInsight practice reveals the world as it truly is. As we begin to clearly see and embody the fundamental truths of Dukkha (suffering)\, Anicca (impermanence)\, and Anatta (non-self)\, we discover a profound paradox. On one hand\, this understanding brings greater lightness and freedom to our lives. On the other hand\, we may become even more acutely sensitive to how the three poisons—greed\, hatred\, and delusion—manifest around us\, both in our personal experience and throughout society. \nHow do we skillfully navigate our lives between these two realities? How do we maintain inner tranquility and ease while remaining fully present to the world as it is\, with all its beauty and suffering? This delicate balance is the essence of equanimity—perhaps the most crucial quality we can cultivate on the spiritual path. \nThis daylong retreat will explore how our meditation nurtures this essential wisdom. Through guided sits\, walking meditation\, and dharma reflection\, we will investigate how equanimity allows us to remain open-hearted and responsive without being overwhelmed\, and how this quality serves both our own liberation and our capacity to serve others with clarity and compassion. \nLet go of the past\, let go of the future\, let go of the present and pass over to the further shore.\n —from the Dhammapada \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Turning Back to Ourselves - A Retreat for Women
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Turning Back to Ourselves – A Retreat for Women \nwith Dalya Tamir \nSaturday\, June 28th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWe often forget that we are worthy of love. We fall into patterns of judging and doubting ourselves\, forgetting our innate goodness and our sense of belonging. None of us want to abandon ourselves in these ways\, but as a result of messages we received throughout our lives\, and due to the structures of the society we live in\, we may find ourselves lost and far away from a deep and true way we once knew. Some of us may never have known that authentic self. \nAdditionally\, many women describe feeling over-extended\, chronically depressed\, or highly anxious. Others feel angry\, agitated\, or restless and cannot find a peaceful place within themselves. Some feel trapped\, believing that the unfulfilling life they are living is the only life they could ever live. \nThe path of Turning Back to Ourselves offers a way to heal the pain of self-abandonment and guides us back to reclaiming our aliveness\, joy\, and ease with ourselves. \nOver the course of this daylong retreat\, we’ll touch upon these themes and explore the ways Buddhist teachings can support us in returning to our wise and compassionate self. With guidance from teacher Dalya Tamir\, we’ll set an intention to no longer abandon ourselves and will apply mindfulness\, self-compassion\, and loving-kindness to move toward a wholesome relationship with ourselves. Our time together will include periods of silent meditation\, as well as time for reflection and sharing. \nThis retreat offers teachings that lift up women’s journeys of awakening. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: From the Cushion to the Streets - A Daylong Retreat Workshop on Engaging with the World
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: From the Cushion to the Streets – A Daylong Retreat Workshop on Engaging with the World\n \nwith Leslie Booker and Elaine Retholtz\n \nSaturday\, June 21st\, 2025 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET\n \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor\n \n \nWe find ourselves in a moment in time that is calling many of us to respond. But how to do this with care\, dignity and without adding to divisiveness? There is a long history of folks using their spiritual practice as a foundation and catalyst for activism\, and an equally long history of folks who realize that they need a spiritual practice to sustain their engagement. Marrying these two together is an art and practice that is both skillful and necessary.  \nDuring this daylong there will be time to practice together\, time to connect with others\, and time to engage in reflective processes to help us understand how we can best show up at this moment in time. \nThrough group connection\, individual reflection\, and dharma talks\, we’ll explore the following questions:  \n\nWhat is our role in this time in history?\nHow can we understand our personal “origin story”? What wakes us up—what’s important to us?\nHow can we connect with others? \nWhose shoulders are we standing on? How can looking to the past help us ground in the present? \nHow can our meditation practice support our active engagement with the world? \n\nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Moment by Moment - Taking Care in a Turbulent World
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Moment by Moment – Taking Care in a Turbulent World \nwith David Grogan \nSaturday\, April 26th\, 2025 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn these tumultuous times\, mindfulness is an essential tool for remaining calm and alert. In the quest to find a path forward\, however\, that’s not enough. What’s needed is for mindfulness to be infused with an ethical dimension—an attitude of care. That includes a recognition that all human actions\, large and small\, can have an impact. \nBefore he took his last breath\, the Buddha shared one key word as inspiration for his grieving disciples in their quest to find a path forward after his death. That word is appamada\, which in Pali means heedfulness or care. \nDuring this daylong retreat\, we’ll explore how this concept of care energizes meditation practice\, preventing it from becoming a static or habitual routine\, and transforms it into a tool for clarity and active engagement with the world—even in the face of seemingly insurmountable uncertainty and difficulty. \nTogether we’ll explore the multi-faceted aspects of mindfulness that appamada brings to life. Practices will include formal meditation and mindful movement\, as well as inter-relational practices and opportunities for self-reflection or journaling based on poetry prompts. Join us in sampling an approach to meditation and life that emphasizes the importance of seizing the moment and realizing the full potential of yourself and others. \nEveryone is welcome\, regardless of previous experience with meditation. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below.
