SUMMARY:Online: The New Bodhisattva Path - How to Live in Dangerous Times
DESCRIPTION:Online: The New Bodhisattva Path – How to Live in Dangerous Times\n \nwith David Loy\n \nThursday\, March 13th\, 2025 | 7:00pm – 9:00pm ET\n \n\n \nWe are living in a dangerous time in human history. The “three poisons” of greed\, ill will\, and delusion have become firmly institutionalized. The ecological crisis\, in particular\, is the greatest challenge that humanity has ever faced. \nWhat does Buddhism offer that can help us understand and respond appropriately? And what does our present situation imply about how we understand and practice Buddhism today? \nJoin Zen teacher David Loy for a special online event exploring these urgent questions. David will make the case that the Bodhisattva Path\, understood in a non-sectarian way\, as the most important thing that Buddhism can offer today. \nIn the Buddhist tradition\, bodhisattvas\, or buddhas-to-be\, have a double practice: they continue to work on their own personal transformation\, but they also realize that their own awakening cannot be separated from the liberation of all living beings. \nIn addition to developing generosity\, ethical behavior\, endurance\, persistence\, contemplative practice\, and nondual wisdom\, the bodhisattva path emphasizes social engagement in the world—without attachments to results. Bodhisattvas do the best they can\, without knowing whether what they do will make any difference at all.\nJoin us to learn about embodying the bodhisattva path in tumultuous times. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. SUMMARY:Online: The Subtle Art of Not Doing Anything
DESCRIPTION:Online: The Subtle Art of Not Doing Anything \nwith Jeff Warren \nThursday\, March 20th\, 2025 | 7:00pm – 8:30pm ET \n\nI would like to begin this program description by addressing a core problem that my target audience is facing. Here it is: \nLife. \nLife is hard! So much happening\, so many people doing important things\, running helter skelter all over in a flurry of productivity. \nThis 90 minutes is not about any of that. \nInstead\, it is about the art of doing nothing. As an aspiration. As a way to reset the nervous system and find more sanity\, and maybe also find some community. As a deep spiritual practice of undoing a lifetime of chronic stress and control-freak micromanagement. \nAnd that’s it. \nExpect a gentle guided practice or two. Expect elaborate theories of reality! (No\, don’t expect that.) Expect community discussion and jokes and maybe also tears and seriousness and maybe falling asleep too? OK\, best to not expect anything. \nGuiding meditation and sharing about practice is one of the great joys of my life. Come share in that joy. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level (quantity is limited). Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.)\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. Volunteering allows you to participate in our programs at no cost. To inquire about volunteering opportunities\, please fill out our inquiry form\, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Transforming Grief into Wisdom - Perspectives from Zen Buddhism
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Transforming Grief into Wisdom – Perspectives from Zen Buddhism \nwith Koshin Paley Ellison and Robert Chodo Campbell \nFriday\, March 28th\, 2025 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nUnlike many other shared experiences\, like births or marriages\, our culture doesn’t provide many places that help support those facing the death of a loved one\, terminal illness\, or personal loss. Frequently\, even our friends or family may expect our grief to be resolved in a short time after the initial shock of loss\, rejection\, or diagnosis. But those who grieve know this is not the case. \nAlthough grief can cause great suffering\, it can also provide a powerful opportunity for transformation; by deepening the connection to our present experience\, we can expand our understanding of ourselves and life. \nOver the course of this evening\, we’ll learn how the Buddhist tradition provides some remarkable strategies\, rituals\, and practices for dealing with feelings of mourning\, distress and unease. Join seasoned Zen teachers Koshin Paley Ellison and Robert Chodo Campbell to learn how you can move toward releasing and transforming the suffering of grief into lasting wisdom. \nEveryone is welcome\, regardless of experience with meditation or Buddhism. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. \n \nOnline Registration:\nPlease register below.
