SUMMARY:Online: Cultivating the Joyful Heart - Buddhist Practices for Difficult Times
DESCRIPTION:Online: Cultivating the Joyful Heart – Buddhist Practices for Difficult Times \nwith Scott Tusa \nTuesday\, July 15th\, 2025 | 7:00pm – 9:00pm ET \n \nIn a world filled with uncertainty and challenge\, many of us find ourselves caught in cycles of fear\, anxiety\, and reactivity. These difficult emotions not only drain our energy but can also disconnect us from our natural capacity for joy and compassion\, leaving us feeling isolated and overwhelmed by life’s challenges. \nWhat if there was a time-tested path to transform these challenging emotions? The Buddhist practice of Boundless Joy offers a powerful antidote to fear and aggression\, helping us rediscover our innate capacity for well-being and compassionate service even amidst difficulty. \nThrough periods of meditation\, discussion\, and Q&A we will explore how Boundless Joy emerges naturally from practices of love and compassion. You will learn to recognize how these practices create the conditions for joy to arise even in difficult circumstances\, giving you practical tools to transform fear and aggression into spacious awareness and heartfelt connection. \nYou’ll learn specific techniques to: \n\nRecognize and cultivate moments of joy in daily life\, even during challenging times\nUse compassion practices to skillfully work with fear and aggressive emotions\nDevelop a more balanced relationship with difficult experiences by seeing the good in yourself and others\n\nJoin us on this journey to discover how the ancient wisdom of Buddhist practice can provide practical tools for modern challenges\, helping you transform fear into compassion and rediscover your natural capacity for joy—regardless of external circumstances. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Finding Refuge in an Unstable World
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Finding Refuge in an Unstable World\n \nwith Bradley Donaldson\n \nThursday\, July 17\, 2025 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor\n \n \nIn times of uncertainty—whether personal or global—it’s natural to feel overwhelmed. Often\, what we most desire is solid ground\, a place of peace and clarity within the chaos. But without a reliable inner refuge\, we can be swept away by stress\, anxiety\, and a sense of powerlessness. \nWhen we lack tools to meet life’s instability with steadiness\, we may begin to shut down\, which strains our relationships and also limits our ability to show up for what matters. \nIn this evening session with Buddhist teacher and former monastic Bradley Donaldson\, we will take a moment to pause and recenter. Through guided meditation\, shared readings\, and straightforward Dharma reflections\, we will explore how the Buddha’s teachings can help us find refuge—not in escaping the world\, but in turning towards it with compassion and clarity. \nYou will leave with some more tools for grounding yourself\, building resilience\, and discovering a steadiness that can carry you through uncertain times. \nJoin us to find your footing amidst life’s turbulence\, reconnect with a deeper sense of peace\, and experience the strength of building refuge—together. \nRegistration\nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:Online: An Embodied Pathway to Liberation
DESCRIPTION:Online: An Embodied Pathway to Liberation \nwith Fleet Maull \nTuesday\, July 22nd\, 2025 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \n \nMany of us struggle with racing thoughts\, chronic stress\, emotional overwhelm\, or a lingering sense of disconnection—from our bodies\, our purpose\, or even our sense of self. Traditional mindfulness approaches can sometimes feel distant or overly cognitive\, offering awareness without the tools to truly transform. \nWithout a grounded way to regulate the nervous system and reconnect with the body’s innate wisdom\, these patterns can keep us stuck—feeling reactive\, dysregulated\, or spiritually adrift. \nFaced with these challenges\, Fleet Maull\, founder of the Prison Mindfulness Institute\, developed a new approach to meditation. Neuro-Somatic Mindfulness (NSM) Meditation offers a practical and deeply embodied path to healing and awakening. Rooted in network neuroscience\, trauma-informed awareness\, and nondual wisdom traditions\, this approach helps you gently rewire your brain and restore balance through somatic presence and interoceptive awareness. \nIn this program\, you will: \n\nLearn to activate core self-regulation networks through body-based meditation techniques.\nCultivate a felt sense of safety\, clarity\, and inner coherence using breath\, posture\, and micro-movements.\nExperience direct practices that shift you from survival-mode into presence\, resilience\, and compassionate awareness.\n\nJoin us for a special evening of reconnecting with your body’s intelligence and building a resilient nervous system. Together we’ll learn how to meet life with more presence\, equanimity\, and purpose. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities.
