SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The Universe in a Hand – Encountering Our True Nature through the Four Immeasurable Minds of Love
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: The Universe in a Hand – Encountering Our True Nature through the Four Immeasurable Minds of Love \nPart of The Body Remembers Freedom Series\n \nwith Kaira Jewel Lingo and Linds Roberts\n \nThursday\, May\, 7th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET (optionally\, bring your dinner at 5:30pm to enjoy in community) \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor\n \nThe teaching of Indra’s Net reveals a universe of radiant interconnection\, where each of us is a unique jewel\, reflecting and being reflected by the whole vast net of existence. This session invites us to feel this truth in our bodies and hearts through play and presence. \nWe’ll engage in a practice of meeting others eye-to-eye in brief\, heart-opening encounters that invite us to see ourselves and each other as expressions of boundless love—cultivating kindness\, compassion\, joy\, and equanimity. Then\, through a simple drawing exercise\, we’ll map the visible and invisible elements—the people\, places\, and beings—that weave together to create the miracle of who we are. Together\, we remember that we are not separate individuals\, but a community of beings in communion. \nIf you are joining in person at NY Insight\, you are optionally invited to arrive at 5:30pm and bring your dinner. We will eat together for a few minutes in mindfulness and then have time to share and connect before the class begins at 6:30pm. \nThis session will include a simple drawing exercise. If you are joining via Zoom\, please have some paper and a pencil/pen/crayons/markers (whatever you prefer to use) on hand. \nThis workshop is part of The Body Remembers Freedom\, a monthly series that brings together meditation\, dharma\, and embodied practice in a way that is relational\, grounded\, and alive. Each session includes time for meditation and contemplation\, a dharma talk or shared inquiry\, and InterPlay\, a playful and powerful practice using movement\, voice\, storytelling\, and deep listening to access the wisdom of the body. \nParticipants are supported to be: \n\nMore grounded and connected to their bodies and to one another\nMore accountable to themselves and to community\nReconnected to joy\, creativity\, and inner resource\nBetter able to meet life\, and themselves\, with compassion and presence\n\nIn times that can feel scary\, overwhelming\, or isolating\, these gatherings offer a place to put the phone down\, release accumulated stress\, and reconnect with what feels trustworthy and alive. We gather to remember the sacred in ordinary experience and to be held in the support of community. \nNo experience with meditation or movement is required. You are welcome exactly as you are\, with curiosity and a willingness to be present. \nThe Body Remembers Freedom is offered monthly on the first or second Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm ET and is offered in a hybrid format. During the InterPlay portion of the evening\, Linds Roberts guides participants joining on Zoom\, while Kaira Jewel guides those attending in person. The full group then comes back together for the closing practice. You are welcome to register for a single session\, select multiple dates\, or join the full series at a discounted rate. \nSessions are recorded and shared with all registrants after the program\, so you are welcome to sign up even if you cannot attend live. \nRegister for one session or the full series (at a discount!) below.\n2026: | May 7 | June 18 | July 9 | August 6 \nIn-Person Registration:\nIn-Person Single Session\nIn-Person Full Series\n  \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nOnline Single Session\nOnline Full Series\n  \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. SUMMARY:Online: Free Seven Day Urban Meditation Retreat Info Session and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Online: Free Seven Day Urban Meditation Retreat Info Session and Q&A \nwith Leslie Booker and Dalila Bothwell \nThursday\, May 14th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 7:30pm ET \n \nIn June\, New York Insight is holding its second-ever non-residential retreat\, designed to help integrate practice into your daily life and life into your practice. \nWe often think of retreat as a chance to get away—traveling to a quiet meditation center in a serene natural setting. But for those of us who live in cities\, this can create a split: retreat happens there\, life happens here. Practicing together in the same city where we live\, work\, and navigate daily challenges creates a powerful opportunity: we can begin to carry the clarity and presence of retreat into the rhythms of ordinary life. \nDuring this live Q&A session\, teachers Leslie Booker and Dalila Bothwell will explain the format of this summer’s retreat and answer any questions you may have about embarking on a weeklong commitment to meditation practice. \nReserve your spot now for a special sneak peek into this weeklong retreat! \nAttendance at this event is encouraged but not required to register for June’s retreat. \nSave the date! The retreat itself will be held June 13-19\, 2026. \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. Volunteering allows you to participate in our programs at no cost. To inquire about volunteering opportunities\, please fill out our inquiry form\, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Celebrating Asian Heritage Month with Asian Insight Diaspora Sanghas
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Celebrating Asian Heritage Month with Asian Insight Diaspora Sanghas \nA National Celebration of Community and Connection Honoring Asian Heritage Month \nwith Lin Wang Gordon\, Tim Hwang\, and Joanna Williams \nThursday\, May 21st\, 2026 | 7:00pm – 9:00pm ET (4:00pm – 6:00pm PT) \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n\nJoin us for an inaugural gathering to celebrate and connect Asian American Diaspora Insight sanghas across the country. While each of our communities may be small\, together we form a vibrant\, supportive\, and growing network of Asian American Buddhist practitioners. This gathering is an opportunity to recognize and honor that collective strength. \nThis gathering is open to self-identified practitioners of all Asian Diaspora sanghas. Come to connect\, share\, and celebrate our heritage and help strengthen this growing network of practice and belonging. We kindly ask those who do not identify as members of the Asian Diaspora community to support us from afar as we hold space for our community. \nWhether you gather with your local sangha in person and join via Zoom\, or connect individually from wherever you are\, you are warmly invited to come and share in this moment of connection. \nParticipating Asian Diaspora Sanghas include: \n\nInsight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW)\nWatsonville Insight (Santa Cruz\, CA)\nNew York Insight Meditation Center (New York\, NY)\nInsight San Diego\nInsight Dialogue\n\nThis is the first year we are organizing this event.  We hope more sanghas can join us in the future. \nWhat We’ll Explore Together \nThis gathering will weave together three threads of reflection and dialogue: sangha experience\, heritage and Buddhism\, and community engagement. The evening will include a panel conversation with leaders from participating sanghas\, small breakout groups\, and a sharing circle. \nTogether we will reflect on questions such as: \n\nWhat inspired the creation of Asian American sangha spaces?\nWhat feels most supportive in these communities?\nHow do heritage and Buddhist practice shape our paths?\nWhat does “Asian American Buddhist” mean to us today?\n\nDana from the evening will be donated to an Asian American charity\, which participants will vote on together during the event. \nZoom link will be shared upon registration. \nRegistration:\nAlthough there is no registration fee and your presence remains the greatest gift\, we invite you to offer what you can. All proceeds will go to a charity determined by participants during the event. \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Transforming Our Disconnection\, Anxiety\, and Overwhelm \nwith Koshin Paley Ellison and Robert Chodo Campbell \nThursday\, May 28th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nShakyamuni Buddha taught us to work with suffering. He courageously faced fear with vigor and good spiritual friends. Today\, just like 2\,600 years ago\, the days are marked by separation and conflict. \nMany of us feel deeply unsettled. In our bodies and minds\, we experience the gap between what we care about and what we actually do. How are we working to transform disconnection\, anxiety\, and overwhelm? \nOver the course of this evening\, the Guiding Teachers of the New York Zen Center encourage us to nurture our capacity for intimacy\, connection\, and clarity—within ourselves and between one another. Senseis Chodo Campbell and Koshin Paley Ellison will introduce the basics of practice for everyday living. \nParticipants will also have an opportunity to experience what is nourishing about not turning away from discomfort and reflect on the day to day possibilities of showing up in each moment with presence\, wisdom\, and compassion. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below to attend in-person. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Mountains and Moonlight - Buddhist Wisdom in Classical Chinese Poetry
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Mountains and Moonlight – Buddhist Wisdom in Classical Chinese Poetry \nwith Lin Wang Gordon \nFriday\, May 29th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWhen Buddhism entered China around the first century\, it entwined with Taoism and Confucianism\, together they weaved the fabrics of Chinese culture and the texture of everyday life. Along with a reverence for nature\, Buddhist insights of impermanence and equanimity flowed into Chinese poetry\, giving voice to renunciation and quiet joy. \nAcross centuries\, poets from all walks of life—court officials and recluses\, the successful and the dispossessed—turned to Buddhist wisdom to navigate uncertainty and flow of life. Some found grace after loss; others withdrew from fame and power\, discovering contentment in simplicity and the ordinary rhythms of life. Their poems speak not only of mountains and moonlight\, but of resilience\, equanimity\, and inner freedom—questions as alive today as they were a thousand years ago. \nWhat do these poems offer us today? How do we find peace and joy in a noisy world? Besides achievement and success\, what kind of life leads to contentment? In this evening of reflection\, we will read Buddhist-inspired poetry across dynasties and poets\, meditate\, and let insights arise. \nLin Wang Gordon\, who majored in East Asian Studies and a lifelong lover of classical Chinese poetry\, invites you to step into ancient China—to explore stillness\, simplicity and grace. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below to attend in-person.
