This course will offer empowering instructions enabling us to know the immediate truth of our experience which is so worthy of our application. \nBeginners and experienced practitioners are welcome. \nRegistration:\nPlease register at the highest level that your generosity offers.\nExplanations of levels follow below.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new window for an easier process.\nPlease contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance. \n\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has streamlined the registration fee levels. Members of our Circle of Friends are eligible to receive 20% off of the Sustaining Rate via a code provided in the email confirming membership\, which you can enter after clicking the Sustaining Level registration. \n*Benefactor Level: Supports NYI’s ability to offer the Subsidized Base. \n**Sustaining Level: This level reflects the actual costs to support this program. Circle of Friends members eligible for 20% discount with code. SUMMARY:Online: The Four Best Ways to Live Your Life
DESCRIPTION:Online: The Four Best Ways to Live Your Life\n \nwith Bodhipaksa\n \nSunday\, December 11th\, 2022 | 10:00am – 2:00pm ET\n  \nJoin Bodhipaksa for this Sunday workshop to explore four meditation practices for developing love. \nCollectively these four meditations are called the Brahma-Viharas\, often translated as “divine abodes\,” although this term could be more meaningfully rendered as the “four best ways to live your life.” \nEven if you’re familiar with these practices\, you’ll likely find Bodhipaksa’s approach fresh and illuminating. \nThe four practices are: \nKindness: Bodhipakṣa advocates this simple word as a translation of metta/maitri — favoring it over the usual “lovingkindness” because it’s grounded\, embodied\, and familiar. \nCompassion: This is where we turn the mind toward suffering. We’ll be exploring how crucial it is that we learn to offer compassion to ourselves\, so that our compassion for others can be more genuine. \nAppreciation: If we truly love beings we want them to be the best possible versions of themselves\, and to do that we have to train ourselves to see and encourage what’s best in them. \nLooking Deeper: There are always going to be times when love fails – for example when there are people we have trouble cultivating love for. In those circumstances we need to look deeper in order to find ways around our reactive tendencies. This is what this final practice (upekkha/upeksha — literally “looking closely”) is fundamentally about. \nAs we engage with these four forms of meditation we’ll learn important lessons about the difference between liking ourselves and being kind to ourselves\, and being nice to others and having genuine compassion for them. We’ll also learn the crucial importance of developing self-empathy before cultivating love for ourselves or for others. \nAnd hopefully we’ll come to understand why\, because of the peace\, joy\, and sense of meaning these practices bring\, why they’re the four best ways of living our lives. \nRegistration:\nPlease register at the highest level that your generosity offers.\nExplanations of levels follow below.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nClick HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\nPlease contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance. \n \nRegistration Fees include Teacher Support\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has streamlined the registration fee levels. SUMMARY:Online: Communication Survival Skills for the Holidays
DESCRIPTION:Online: Communication Survival Skills for the Holidays\n \nwith Elaine Retholtz & Valerie Brown\n \nTuesday\, December 13th\, 2022 | 7:30pm – 9:00pm ET\n \n\n \nThe holiday season can be both a joyful and a stressful time. It may be filled with social gatherings\, rituals\, and memories. This can lead to social comparisons\, loneliness\, anxiety\, depression\, and stress. Holiday celebrations can bring with it – especially with COVID – a sense of overwhelm and heightened expectations that feed tensions and underscore feelings of separation. \nJoin Elaine and Val as they reflect on how they are supported and grounded in practices based in wisdom from the Buddhist and Quaker faith traditions and relational mindfulness. These practices support our ability to bridge differences and improve the quality of our relationships this holiday season. This evening will be very interactive with opportunities to reflect and practice both in small breakout rooms and with the full community. \nLearning Objectives:\nPractice mindful speaking with clarity and kindness.\nPractice handling strong emotions to support greater understanding.\nListen for connection instead of correction \nRegistration:\nPlease register at the highest level that your generosity offers.\nExplanations of levels follow below.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nClick HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\nPlease contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance.\n \nRegistration Fees include Teacher Support\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has streamlined the registration fee levels. SUMMARY:Online: Back to Basics to Strengthen Your Practice
DESCRIPTION:Online: Back to Basics to Strengthen Your Practice \nwith Bart van Melik \nFriday\, December 16th\, 2022 | 9:00am – 10:30am ET \n  \nThe Buddha taught us to live in harmony with the way things are and to awaken to the truth of suffering and how to end it. This might sound like a lofty goal – especially in the midst of a global pandemic. \nHowever\, it can be very supportive to practice the most basic instructions the Buddha gave: to fully know of what it’s like to be human in every moment. \nStep by step during this online course\, we’ll look at the Buddha’s teachings on welcoming ALL of our experiences – even the presence of challenging emotions.
