SUMMARY:Postponed: Cultivating Three Key Elements of Practice - Mindfulness\, Investigation and Energy
DESCRIPTION:Postponed: Cultivating Three Key Elements of Practice – Mindfulness\, Investigation and Energy\n \nwith Walt Opie\n \nDue to unforeseen circumstances\, the weekend event is postponed.\n \n\n \nOne prominent teaching in Buddhism\, the Seven Factors of Awakening\, starts with three key elements of meditation practice that are extremely important to cultivate: mindfulness\, investigation and energy. \nMindfulness has a monitoring aspect\, where we are constantly paying attention through the senses and responding accordingly. Investigation allows us to bring wisdom to the situation and make sure we see the broader perspective. Meanwhile\, it takes consistent effort or energy to stay mindful through both easeful experiences and the more difficult or challenging moments. So these three factors are vital both on and off the cushion. \nDuring this half day retreat\, we will meditate together and explore ways to better understand how to strengthen and deepen these three critical elements of practice that lead us onwards on the path. This event will include guided meditations\, dharma talks\, and discussion. Appropriate for beginners and more experienced meditators. \nRegistration:\nPlease register at the highest level that your generosity offers.\nExplanations of levels follow below.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\nPlease contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance. \n \nRegistration Fees include Teacher Support\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has streamlined the registration fee levels. SUMMARY:Online: Living With Gratitude
DESCRIPTION:Online: Living With Gratitude\n \nwith Bodhipaksa\n \nSaturday\, June 10th\, 2023 | 9:30am – 1:00pm ET\n \n\n \nMost of the time we take good things in our lives for granted\, focusing instead on the things we don’t like or what we want to change. \nThis is how most of us live\, most of the time. It shouldn’t be a surprise that focusing on the negative makes us unhappy\, but we do it anyway. \nOn the other hand\, when we train ourselves to be grateful\, we find things to be thankful for everywhere. \nEvery moment becomes an opportunity for gratitude which brings a deep sense of joy\, and even of being blessed. \nOn this half-day workshop we’ll explore\, with the aid of meditations based on the Buddhist tradition\, how we can train the mind to be more grateful\, and therefore more joyful. We’ll learn —and live— the truth of Benedictine monk and author David Steindl-Rast’s statement\, “Look closely and you will find that people are happy because they are grateful.” \nRegistration:\nPlease register at the highest level that your generosity offers.\nExplanations of levels follow below.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\nPlease contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance. \n \nRegistration Fees include Teacher Support\nNew York Insight Meditation Center has streamlined the registration fee levels.
