SUMMARY:In-Person: Sunset Meditative Walk – Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn Bridge Park
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Sunset Meditative Walk – Brooklyn Bridge to Brooklyn Bridge Park\n \nwith Lin Wang Gordon\n \nSunday\, August 4th\, 2024 | 6:15pm – 8:30pm\n \nLocation: Meet at corner of Chamber and Center Streets in Manhattan\n \n\n \nWe often think of meditation as an indoor formal sitting practice\, but it’s a practice we can integrate anytime and anywhere. \nJoin us for an outdoor meditation as we walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and practice at Brooklyn Bridge Park during sunset. \nTogether\, we’ll immerse ourselves in the beauty of a cityscape sunset\, fostering a deep connection with our body\, mind\, and the natural world. Amidst this urban backdrop\, we’ll reflect on our interconnectedness with humanity and the environment. \nWe will explore the rich history of Brooklyn Bridge Park\, a testament to community activism transforming abandoned industrial space into a sustainable waterfront haven\, blending recreation with ecological preservation. \nThe meditative walk will start at the Brooklyn Bridge from the Manhattan side and continue over the bridge to Brooklyn Bridge Park. This experience will proceed rain or shine\, barring heavy rain or severe weather threats. \nTo reach the meeting location by Subway: Take 4\, 5\, and 6 trains to the Brooklyn Bridge stop. We will meet at the intersection of Centre Street and Chambers Street. \nDuring our journey\, depending on the actual conditions\, we may include practices such as open awareness\, metta (loving-kindness)\, five elements\, spaciousness\, etc. \nBoth beginners and experienced meditators are welcome. Hope you can join us! \nIf you need help finding the group during this evening\, please reach out to the event coordinator at 646.902.4650. \nRegistration:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

SUMMARY:Online: Introduction to the Jhanas
DESCRIPTION:Online: Introduction to the Jhanas\n \nwith Leigh Brasington\n \nSaturday\, August 10th\, 2024 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET\n \n\n \nThe jhanas are eight progressive altered states of consciousness that can be identified with the aspect of the Buddha’s Eightfold Path called Right Concentration. \nTraining in concentration leads to these states\, each of which yields a deeper and subtler state of awareness than the previous one. The jhanas are not in themselves awakening\, but they are a skillful means for stilling the mind in a way that leads in that direction. Jhana practice is helpful for gaining the deep insights necessary for ending personal suffering. \nThis daylong retreat will discuss the jhanas in detail\, but in such a short time no one should expect to actually experience any of these states. However the information presented will clear away common misunderstandings about the jhanas and provide information so that one can decide if one wants to pursue deeper learning on the jhanas. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! Early Bird pricing ends three weeks before the event. (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

SUMMARY:Online: The Healing Journey Meets The Spiritual Path – How Pain and Illness Can Be a Vehicle for Awakening
DESCRIPTION:Online: The Healing Journey Meets The Spiritual Path – How Pain and Illness Can Be a Vehicle for Awakening\n \nwith Dr. Paul Epstein\n \nSaturday\, August 24th\, 2024 | 10:00am – 4:00pm ET\n \n\n \nThere is no cure for the human condition\, there is however a healing process and a spiritual path. How we choose to relate to\, be with and face our pain and life’s difficult challenges is as important as what we do to treat them. \nThis workshop with Insight meditation teacher\, Dr Paul Epstein will be an exploration of how the teachings of the Buddha and mindfulness and compassion practice can be integrated in the process of facing and healing the dis-eases of our bodies\, minds\, hearts\, and spirits. \nWe will sit with the questions: What is healing and how does it happen? How can we welcome and open to our pain and illness as an opportunity and the very vehicle for awakening\, and what happens when we do? We’ll explore how being with the truth of suffering is at the heart of the healing journey and is the path to the end of suffering. \n“When any experience of body\, heart\, or mind keeps repeating in consciousness\, it is a signal that this visitor is asking for a deeper and fuller attention….Under all the tears\, the pain\, the fear\, and the anger we have contracted ourself around\, we can find freedom\, joy\, and ease in the face of all life.” – from Jack Kornfield\, A Path with Heart \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity!
