SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, June 3rd\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body? \nIn fact\, tai chi is often referred to as “meditation in motion.” This practice is one of slowing down while still feeling energized\, and learning to relax our muscles while maintaining precision. \nThis practice is well-suited to do before sitting meditation—tai chi is one way to get in touch with the wholeness of the breathing body. Some benefits of tai chi include improved muscle strength\, balance\, and flexibility\, and an increase in energy and focus. \nAll are welcome! No previous experience with tai chi is required to join the sessions. You are free to sign up for a single session\, the whole series\, or anything in-between. This series runs from June 3rd through June 24th. \nThis offering is part of New York Insight’s Mindful Movement series. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below for one or more sessions in this series. (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Regulate & Reconnect - Building a Resilient Nervous System
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Regulate & Reconnect – Building a Resilient Nervous System \nwith Fleet Maull \nThursday\, June 4th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nMany of us struggle with racing thoughts\, chronic stress\, emotional overwhelm\, or a lingering sense of disconnection—from our bodies\, our purpose\, or even our sense of self. Traditional mindfulness approaches can sometimes feel distant or overly cognitive\, offering awareness without the tools to truly transform. \nWithout a grounded way to regulate the nervous system and reconnect with the body’s innate wisdom\, these patterns can keep us stuck—feeling reactive\, dysregulated\, or spiritually adrift. \nFaced with these challenges\, Fleet Maull\, founder of the Prison Mindfulness Institute\, developed a new approach to meditation. Neuro-Somatic Mindfulness (NSM) Meditation offers a practical and deeply embodied path to healing and awakening. Rooted in network neuroscience\, trauma-informed awareness\, and nondual wisdom traditions\, this approach helps you gently rewire your brain and restore balance through somatic presence and interoceptive awareness. \nIn this program\, you will: \n\nLearn to activate core self-regulation networks through body-based meditation techniques.\nCultivate a felt sense of safety\, clarity\, and inner coherence using breath\, posture\, and micro-movements.\nExperience direct practices that shift you from survival-mode into presence\, resilience\, and compassionate awareness.\n\nJoin us for a special evening of reconnecting with your body’s intelligence and building a resilient nervous system. Together we’ll learn how to meet life with more presence\, equanimity\, and purpose. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below to attend in-person. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! \nBring a Buddy: If you are a member of our Circle of Friends\, you’re invited to bring a Dharma buddy to this program for no additional cost. Simply select “1” from the drop-down next to the Bring a Buddy level\, and enter your special discount code (provided in your Circle of Friends welcome email) to reduce the price to that of a single\, standard registration. This registration will grant attendance for you and your buddy. \n \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nPlease register below to attend online via Zoom. SUMMARY:Online: The Dharma of Healthy Attachment
DESCRIPTION:Online: The Dharma of Healthy Attachment \nwith Jessica Morey \nSaturday\, June 6th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nOnline via Zoom \n \nHow do patterns of attachment shape our relationships\, and how might Buddhist practice help transform them? \nIn this daylong retreat\, we’ll explore the meeting point of contemporary Attachment Theory and Buddhist wisdom. Drawing on attachment research\, we’ll examine common insecure mindstates—dismissing\, preoccupied\, and disorganized—and how these habitual relational “views” can generate suffering in close relationships\, including parenting and caregiving. \nThrough guided meditation\, visualization\, and reflective inquiry\, we’ll explore what secure attachment feels like from the inside and how it resonates with core dharma teachings. Participants will be introduced to the Ideal Parent practice\, a contemplative method for cultivating an inner experience of reliable\, attuned\, and benevolent care. These practices are relevant both for our own attachment healing and for how we show up as attachment figures for others. \nTogether\, we’ll investigate how attachment patterns are not fixed traits but conditioned and trainable mindstates—and how healing attachment and deepening insight can mutually support one another\, from everyday relational challenges to profound awakening. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nPlease register below for online participation via Zoom. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, June 10th\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body?

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Seven Day Urban Meditation Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Seven Day Urban Meditation Retreat \nA non-residential retreat in New York City \nwith Leslie Booker and Dalila Bothwell \nSaturday\, June 13th – Friday\, June 19th\, 2026 | 9:30am – 5:00pm ET\n(with options for weekend-only or weekday-only participation) \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWe often think of retreat as a chance to get away—traveling to a quiet meditation center in a serene natural setting. But for those of us who live in cities\, this can create a split: retreat happens there\, life happens here. And as soon as we’re back in the noise and pace of the busy city\, all the calm and clarity we cultivated on retreat evaporates into thin air. \nThat’s why we’re excited to introduce a new kind of retreat; one that lets you practice and integrate into your daily life\, in real time. This is New York Insight’s Annual Urban Retreat.  \nRather than stepping away from life\, we’ll explore what it means to deepen our meditation practice right in the heart of it. Practicing together in the same city where we live\, work\, and navigate daily challenges creates a powerful opportunity: we can begin to carry the clarity and presence of retreat into the rhythms of ordinary life—not just afterward\, but right as it’s happening. \nThis year we’ll be remembering what the 3 Characteristics and the Four Noble Truths have to teach us: It’s Not Permanent\, it’s Not Perfect\, and it’s Not Personal! These truths are the foundation of liberating us from all that tethers us to our suffering. We’ll explore this with humor\, tenderness and a plan for integrating this into your everyday lives. \nWhile much of the retreat will be held in silence\, NY Insight’s Guiding Teacher Leslie Booker and NY Insight former Deputy Director Dalila Bothwell will be guiding these teachings through Dharma reflections\, Guided Meditations and time for dialogue. \nWe hope you can join us! Open to all levels of practitioners\, anyone may attend the whole week\, or join just for the weekend or the weekdays. \nHave questions about the retreat not covered in the FAQ below? Reach out to us at registration@nyimc.org. \nPlease note: The Urban Retreat will be offered like a traditional residential retreat\, with the financial support of the teachers coming from dana or the generosity of the students. Whatever you are able to offer to support Booker and Dalila’s efforts\, is greatly appreciated. \nFAQs about the Urban Meditation Retreat\nDo I have to be a Buddhist? \nNo. People of all backgrounds and traditions are welcome. We expect the group to be diverse in experience level\, age\, and identity. \nDo I need to have a meditation practice? \nNot necessarily\, though some prior experience helps. The retreat begins gently and becomes more in-depth as the week unfolds. If you’re new to meditation\, we recommend starting with the weekend and seeing how it feels—you can always extend your retreat. Our teachers will check in with you throughout and are always available to support you. \nDo we sleep at the meditation center? \nNo. Each evening you’ll head home to rest\, eat dinner\, and return the next morning for the next day of practice. \nWhat do we do for meals? \nWe will share lunch together in community. You can bring food from home or step out to pick something up nearby. \nCan I join the retreat online? \nYes. The entire retreat will also be offered via Zoom\, so you’re welcome to participate from the comfort of your own home. Whether you’re across the city or in another part of the world\, you’ll be able to fully join the retreat community and follow the daily schedule remotely. \nWhat if I can’t afford the full price? \nPart of NYI’s core mission is to share the Buddha’s teachings with all who are interested\, regardless of their ability to pay. Our weeklong retreat is designed to be much more accessible than residential retreats\, but if you need it\, we have options like a payment plan that helps participants with the cost of the retreat. Please contact us at registration@nyimc.org for more information. \nWhat if I can’t take a full week off? \nA full week of meditation with expert and highly-trained teachers is a rare and valuable opportunity—but we’re New Yorkers too and know how hard it can be to take a week off to do a retreat. That’s why we’ve made it possible to join just for the weekend (or just the weekdays)\, so you can still benefit from retreat practice even with a busy schedule. \nHow much do we need to unplug from our devices during the retreat? \nParticipants are encouraged to fully unplug from their email and mobile devices during the hours of the retreat and maintain the atmosphere of retreat practice when returning home each night. \nWhat is dana? \nDana is the Pali word that means “generosity” or “the thing that is given”. This has been a foundational teaching of this Buddhist tradition for over 2600 years\, and is said to be the quality of the heart that needed to be established\, in order to fully understand the rest of the teachings. This 2600 year old tradition is rooted in the confidence that the community will support the ongoing offering of the teachings. \nIn keeping with the expression of this tradition in the West\, Booker and Dalila will only receive financial support for this retreat through the generosity of the community. There will be an opportunity to offer contributions to the teachers and to NYI at the end of your retreat\, as well as a few weeks after. Your donations help the teachers lead a life devoted to sharing these teachings\, and to support the existence of an urban oasis in New York City. \nFeedback from Last Year’s Participants:\n“It’s hard to put into words what this retreat meant to me. I’m still feeling the effects months later.” \n“I’ve wanted to attend a meditation retreat for years\, but haven’t found any that are financially or logistically feasible for me. The non-residential format and rates made this retreat accessible.” \n“I signed up because attending a residential retreat isn’t accessible to me right now. But I quickly realized how uniquely beneficial the non-residential format was\, especially in reflecting on the impact of meditation practice in day-to-day life. My personal practice and sense of community were immeasurably deepened.” \n“Booker and Dalila were amazing teachers. Their personal anecdotes brought concepts to life in a really helpful way.” \n“Thank you for this opportunity. It was deeply profound.” \n“I loved being able to go home each evening and bring the day’s practice into real-life moments with my partner and children.” \nPayment Plans Available\nYou can register for any level of participation in this retreat (full week\, weekend\, or weekdays\, in-person or online) using a 3-month payment plan. To set up your plan\, simply make your first installment payment here. Within a few days\, you will receive confirmation of your registration\, and you will be automatically charged for the second and third installments 30 and 60 days after your first payment. If you have any questions\, please contact us at registration@nyimc.org. \nIn-Person Registration:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\n \nOnline Registration:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. SUMMARY:Online: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course
DESCRIPTION:Online: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course \nwith Jon Aaron \n\nOnline Course: Tuesdays\, June 16th – August 4th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 9:00pm ET\nOnline Daylong: Saturday\, July 18th\, 2026 | 9:30am – 5:00pm ET \n \nMindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the ground-breaking and time-tested\, scientifically researched program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 for the University of Massachusetts Medical School. \nThis transformative course is suited for those coming to meditation for the first time or for experienced meditators who realize they have not yet integrated these practices fully into their lives. \nWhat To Expect:\nMBSR uses meditation\, mindful yoga\, and inquiry/discussion as a way of exploring the habits of the mind to discover how these patterns of reactivity become a major cause of stress and where we could intervene to change them. MBSR helps participants learn to alter their relationship with each moment of their lives and through it derive more clarity\, joy\, fulfillment\, and meaning from their lives. Classes usually have 25-30 participants but may be smaller. The course is experiential: by paying attention to what arises in daily and class practice\, and through exploring the challenges that arise and how these are met\, a supportive and safe container is created for students to feel connected and be inspired. Participants are supported by recorded guided meditations and are expected to practice 45-60 minutes of daily formal meditation as well as various informal practices. \nBenefits of MBSR:\nResearch over the past 46 years indicates that a majority of people who complete this program report a greater ability to cope more effectively with short and long term stressful situations; an increased ability to relax\, lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms; reduction in pain levels and enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain and most importantly a greater energy and enthusiasm for life. \nSome of the Skills People Learn in MBSR Courses: \n\nPractical coping skills to improve the ability to handle stressful situations\nTechniques for being physically and mentally relaxed and at ease\nGentle full body conditioning exercises to strengthen the body and release muscular tension\nThe ability to be increasingly aware of the interplay of mind and body in health and illness\nThe ability to face change and difficult times in life with greater ease\nGreater ability to decrease the physical\, mental and emotional effects of the societal stressors of sexism\, racism\, homophobia\, xenophobia and gender inequity among many other challenges\n\nCourse Dates \nFree Online Orientation: Tuesday\, June 9th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 9:00pm ET\nOnline Course: Tuesdays\, June 16th – August 4th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 9:00pm ET\nOnline Daylong: Saturday\, July 18th\, 2026 | 9:30am – 5:00pm ET \nSliding Scale Course Fee: Sustaining $715 – Base $420 \nPlease choose your rate mindfully and be as generous as possible so that NYI can continue to offer financial assistance to those in need of other NYI offerings. \nIf you need financial assistance\, we have a limited amount of partial scholarships available. Email registration@nyimc.org for more info. \nParticipants may register after the orientation for this class takes place\, but must still view a recorded orientation\, complete the pre-class questionnaire and arrange a pre-class interview with the teacher. Once you have registered\, the teacher will contact you to make these arrangements. \nSign up for the free orientation on June 9 here. \nRegister for the MBSR Course:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, June 17th\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body?

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Beyond the Separate Self - Emptiness and the Freedom of Awareness
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Beyond the Separate Self – Emptiness and the Freedom of Awareness \nPart of The Body Remembers Freedom Series\n \nwith Kaira Jewel Lingo and My Tong\n \nThursday\, June 18th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWhat if the aliveness we call ‘me’ is not a solid thing at all\, but vast and open like the sky? \nIn this session\, we begin with meditation on awareness itself\, resting in the nature of consciousness and touching the spacious freedom that is always already here. From this ground\, we explore the teaching of not-self through playful group forms that invite us to hold and be held by one another’s stories. Together\, we discover that when the sense of a separate self softens\, what remains is not emptiness as absence\, but emptiness as connection\, intimacy\, and belonging. \nThis workshop is part of The Body Remembers Freedom\, a monthly series that brings together meditation\, dharma\, and embodied practice in a way that is relational\, grounded\, and alive. Each session includes time for meditation and contemplation\, a dharma talk or shared inquiry\, and InterPlay\, a playful and powerful practice using movement\, voice\, storytelling\, and deep listening to access the wisdom of the body. \nParticipants are supported to be: \n\nMore grounded and connected to their bodies and to one another\nMore accountable to themselves and to community\nReconnected to joy\, creativity\, and inner resource\nBetter able to meet life\, and themselves\, with compassion and presence\n\nIn times that can feel scary\, overwhelming\, or isolating\, these gatherings offer a place to put the phone down\, release accumulated stress\, and reconnect with what feels trustworthy and alive. We gather to remember the sacred in ordinary experience and to be held in the support of community. \nNo experience with meditation or movement is required. You are welcome exactly as you are\, with curiosity and a willingness to be present. \nThe Body Remembers Freedom is offered one Thursday a month from 6:30 to 8:30 pm ET and is offered in a hybrid format. During the InterPlay portion of the evening\, My Tong guides participants joining on Zoom\, while Kaira Jewel guides those attending in person. The full group then comes back together for the closing practice. You are welcome to register for a single session\, select multiple dates\, or join the full series at a discounted rate. \nSessions are recorded and shared with all registrants after the program\, so you are welcome to sign up even if you cannot attend live. \nRegister for one session or the full series (at a discount!) below.\n2026: June 18 | July 9 | August 6 \nIn-Person Registration:\nIn-Person Single Session\nIn-Person Full Series\n  \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nOnline Single Session\nOnline Full Series\n  \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, June 24th\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body?
