SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Write Like a Buddha - A Workshop Series for All
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Write Like a Buddha – A Workshop Series for All \nwith Tracy Cochran \nFridays\, September 18th – October 23rd\, 2025 | 1:00pm – 2:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \n“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.” \n–Pierre Teilhard de Chardin \nThe spiritual truth we are seeking is right here\, waiting for us to notice. Witnessed with compassion\, our own messy\, unruly lives become gold mines of insight and wisdom. Combining mindfulness meditation with mindful writing\, we will explore our experiences like a Buddha would. \nEach week we will begin with a guided meditation to ground us in a state of relaxed presence. Next\, we will practice writing mindfully. Each week teacher Tracy Cochran will offer an insight from the Buddha’s core teachings–impermanence\, the nature of suffering\, the way to freedom–aimed at helping us uncover our own moments of understanding. \nTogether we will pan for gold–remembering and expressing through writing those moments that showed us simply and directly what our lives are for. Some may wish to share what they write but there will be no pressure to do so. \nJoin us on six successive Fridays as we meditate and explore the Buddha’s core teachings as a way to uncover and tell our own deepest\, truest stories. \nThis course is suitable for all beings—no meditation or writing experience required.  \nWe are born spiritual beings. This weekly class blends meditation with core Buddhist teachings to uncover our own wisdom and meaning through reflective writing. \nNote: If you’re not able to attend every session\, feel free to sign up for any number of “drop-in” sessions on the in-person or online registration forms below. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. SUMMARY:Online: How to Live—and Die—Well - A Yearlong Course
DESCRIPTION:Online: How to Live—and Die—Well – A Yearlong Course \nwith Amy Selzer and Nancy Glimm \nSundays\, September 20th\, October 18th\, November 22nd\, December 20th\, 2026; January 17th\, February 21st\, March 21st\, April 18th\, May 16th\, June 20th (Father’s Day)\, July 18th\, August 15th\, 2027 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET \n \nIf you woke up each morning with a deeper awareness of Life & Death\, what might change? How would you greet the day\, your relationships\, your routine? \nUntil we are directly confronted with our own mortality most of us live life as if it will never end. This is a yearlong course about learning to live fully in every moment of our lives. Over the course of 12 months\, between September 2026 and August 2027\, we will live as though this is our last year. \nWhile confronting death may seem scary\, this course is about cultivating a deep appreciation for the preciousness of life. Participants can feel safe to speak from their hearts about their fears and hopes. Our intention is to offer people ways to feel empowered in facing life’s challenges and to notice and question some of the narratives they have been holding on to. Everything can be included. We aim to create a community of love\, respect\, and mutual support as we tackle these difficult questions. \nOn the third Sunday of every month\, we will meet virtually to explore and reflect on a teaching of the Buddha. With guidance from teachers Amy Selzer and Nancy Glimm\, together we’ll look at our relationship to change and impermanence\, noticing any resistance or fears that come up. At any stage of life\, we can notice the wisdom that was not available earlier to us. \nThis course offers: \n\nA monthly sangha of safety and support\nA community of accountability for a daily meditation practice\nDeeper understanding of impermanence as a teacher\nTools for self-acceptance and inviting moments of joy\nOpportunities to strengthen and grow mindfulness in daily life\nHomework and practice sheets to keep you engaged\nOptional “buddy groups” where you can share your experiences with and reflections on the teachings learned in class\n\nWe hope that you join us to cultivate a life without fear and one dedicated to the well-being of all. \n“Once the two of us started teaching on our own\, we realized that what the Buddha taught illuminated life and death and that his teachings were embedded in both. Our intention is to develop a year-long course that will be both encouraging and doable\, so that participants will become more comfortable about their own death and what is possible for them in life.” – Amy Selzer and Nancy Glimm \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nPayment plans are available if you would prefer to pay for your registration in 10 monthly installments. Simply make your first installment\, and you will be registered for the course\, and your card will automatically be charged on a monthly basis for the remaining 9 installments. \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities.
