SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, July 8th\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body? \nIn fact\, tai chi is often referred to as “meditation in motion.” This practice is one of slowing down while still feeling energized\, and learning to relax our muscles while maintaining precision. \nThis practice is well-suited to do before sitting meditation—tai chi is one way to get in touch with the wholeness of the breathing body. Some benefits of tai chi include improved muscle strength\, balance\, and flexibility\, and an increase in energy and focus. \nAll are welcome! No previous experience with tai chi is required to join the sessions. You are free to sign up for a single session\, the whole series\, or anything in-between. This series runs from July 1st through July 22nd. \nThis offering is part of New York Insight’s Mindful Movement series. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below for one or more sessions in this series. (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Touching the Sacred in the Ordinary - Finding Meaning\, Connection\, and Aliveness Right Where We Are
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Touching the Sacred in the Ordinary – Finding Meaning\, Connection\, and Aliveness Right Where We Are \nPart of The Body Remembers Freedom Series\n \nwith Kaira Jewel Lingo and Linds Roberts\n \nThursday\, July 9th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWhat if the sacred is not something we have to seek out\, but something quietly waiting for us in the midst of our ordinary lives? \nThrough meditation\, embodied practice\, shared inquiry\, and moments of stillness\, we arrive more fully in the present moment\, softening the habit of overlooking what is here. As we slow down and listen deeply\, we begin to notice how meaning\, connection\, and aliveness naturally reveal themselves. Together\, we discover that the ordinary is not separate from the sacred\, but is itself the ground from which belonging\, wonder\, and presence unfold. \nThis workshop is part of The Body Remembers Freedom\, a monthly series that brings together meditation\, dharma\, and embodied practice in a way that is relational\, grounded\, and alive. Each session includes time for meditation and contemplation\, a dharma talk or shared inquiry\, and InterPlay\, a playful and powerful practice using movement\, voice\, storytelling\, and deep listening to access the wisdom of the body. \nParticipants are supported to be: \n\nMore grounded and connected to their bodies and to one another\nMore accountable to themselves and to community\nReconnected to joy\, creativity\, and inner resource\nBetter able to meet life\, and themselves\, with compassion and presence\n\nIn times that can feel scary\, overwhelming\, or isolating\, these gatherings offer a place to put the phone down\, release accumulated stress\, and reconnect with what feels trustworthy and alive. We gather to remember the sacred in ordinary experience and to be held in the support of community. \nNo experience with meditation or movement is required. You are welcome exactly as you are\, with curiosity and a willingness to be present. \nThe Body Remembers Freedom is offered one Thursday a month from 6:30 to 8:30 pm ET and is offered in a hybrid format. During the InterPlay portion of the evening\, Linds Roberts guides participants joining on Zoom\, while Kaira Jewel guides those attending in person. The full group then comes back together for the closing practice. You are welcome to register for a single session\, select multiple dates\, or join the full series at a discounted rate. \nSessions are recorded and shared with all registrants after the program\, so you are welcome to sign up even if you cannot attend live. \nRegister for one session or the full series (at a discount!) below.\n2026: July 9 | August 6 \nIn-Person Registration:\nIn-Person Single Session\nIn-Person Full Series\n  \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nOnline Single Session\nOnline Full Series\n  \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. Volunteering allows you to participate in our programs at no cost. To inquire about volunteering opportunities\, please fill out our inquiry form\, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Finding Rest in a Restless World - A Daylong Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Finding Rest in a Restless World – A Daylong Retreat \nwith Rashid Hughes and Gaylon Ferguson \nSaturday\, July 11th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nMany of us are tired in ways we have not yet been able to name. We have been running for so long that we have forgotten we are running. Unfortunately\, the world around us does not remind us to slow down. \nAnd yet\, beneath the exhaustion\, something in us remains awake and undamaged. Rooted in the effortless awareness teachings of Tibetan Buddhism and the non-dual wisdom of other contemplative traditions\, this retreat trusts that what is most essential in us has never been lost — only obscured. Rest is not the opposite of engaged living. It is its root. In this daylong retreat\, we will practice the art of welcoming: opening to the reality of our experience\, taking care of what arises without turning away. We explore the creative tension between slowing down and showing up\, discovering that genuine awareness\, tended collectively\, makes our action more whole\, more sustainable\, more alive. \nThrough meditation\, collective inquiry and gentle embodied movement\, we learn to rest not as withdrawal but as return\, to ourselves and to one another. In this daylong retreat\, we will restore not only as individuals but as a community practicing care together. \nGuided by Rashid Hughes and Gaylon Ferguson\, this day invites you to remember your basic goodness\, your innate capacity to find rest and the energy to live a courageously full life\, and to carry that knowing back into the world. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! \nBring a Buddy: If you are a member of our Circle of Friends\, you’re invited to bring a Dharma buddy to this program for no additional cost. Simply select “1” from the drop-down next to the Bring a Buddy level\, and enter your special discount code (provided in your Circle of Friends welcome email) to reduce the price to that of a single\, standard registration. SUMMARY:In-Person: Day of Remembering Our Interdependence
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Day of Remembering Our Interdependence \nwith Mahasangha NYC \nSunday\, July 12th\, 2026 | Full walk: 8:00am – 8:00pm / Culminating gathering: 5:00pm – 7:00pm \nLocation: across NYC / Culminating gathering at Socrates Sculpture Park \n \nThe Engaged Buddhists of NYI along with NYIMC\, in partnership with Mahasangha NYC\, would like to invite you to join a very special event: a full day of practice in pilgrimage across the five boroughs of New York City\, taking place on Sunday\, July 12th. \nThis gathering was born earlier this spring\, when a circle of Buddhist friends — practitioners from many traditions\, many of whom identify as engaged Buddhists and activists — sat together and shared what was arising in their hearts. From that circle\, an idea emerged: a day to come together not in protest\, but in deep commitment to our collective belonging — and in honest witness to the harm being done in our city and our country\, past and present. \nTogether\, participants will walk\, sit\, and chant — moving through the city mindfully. The day will include stops at the African Burial Ground and Foley Square in Manhattan\, and the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn\, where many ICE detainees are currently being held. \nWe encourage you to join all or any part of the day. If you’d like to meet up with us\, the Engaged Buddhists of NYI will be fully attending the final gathering at Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens\, where the walk concludes with food\, music\, and poetry. \nTo learn more about the full program and to RSVP\, visit www.mahasanghanyc.com.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The Power of Forgiveness - A Five-Week Course

SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, July 15th\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body?

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Silencing Your Inner Critic - A Guide to Self-Compassion in Tough Times
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Silencing Your Inner Critic – A Guide to Self-Compassion in Tough Times \nwith Gary Singer \nThursday\, July 16th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nEven\, and perhaps especially\, when the world seems out of control\, the practice of self-love is an essential tool to make sure we remain connected to our values and sense of right and wrong. \nIndeed\, compassion is foundational to the Buddha’s teachings. That means compassion for all beings\, even ourselves. Nevertheless\, most of us have an easier time extending compassion to others than to ourselves. \nOver the course of two hours\, we’ll use mindfulness to investigate how we treat ourselves in the privacy of our own minds. Why does our Inner Critic tend to treat ourselves worse than we would anyone else? What stories might we be telling about ourselves and others that might simply be untrue? Can we stop the incessant comparison to others? Can we finally befriend ourselves? \nTogether\, we’ll touch upon how we might become aware of difficult emotions\, recognize the common humanity in our struggles\, and accept ourselves with greater kindness and compassion. The more we’re at peace with ourselves\, the more peaceful we are with others and the world. \nExperienced meditators and those brand new to meditation are welcome. \nBring your curiosity! \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below to attend in-person. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The Concentration Algorithm - Turning Distraction into Practice
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: The Concentration Algorithm – Turning Distraction into Practice \nwith Toby Sola \nSaturday\, July 18th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIt’s hard to concentrate. You sit down to meditate\, and within seconds your mind is pulled away by thoughts\, sensations\, or emotions. Without a clear way to work with distraction\, this pattern can become frustrating and discouraging. Instead of building confidence and clarity\, practice starts to feel like a constant battle you’re losing. \nIn this daylong retreat\, you’ll learn a simple\, powerful “concentration algorithm” that turns distraction into the path of practice itself. Rather than fighting distractions\, you’ll systematically use them as your next object of focus. Over time\, this builds both stability and insight. \nYou’ll leave with: \n\nA clear\, step-by-step method for working with distraction instead of resisting it\nGreater confidence in your ability to focus\, even in the midst of a busy mind\n\nJoin us to transform distraction from your biggest obstacle into your most reliable teacher. \nNote: This program will be recorded. SUMMARY:In-Person: Compassion as an Embodied Practice - A Half-day Yoga Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Compassion as an Embodied Practice – A Half-day Yoga Retreat \nwith Oneika Mays \nSunday\, July 19th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nThere is suffering in the world\, and many of us are asking: how do we respond? \nThis half-day retreat explores karuna (compassion) as embodied practice – putting compassion into action starting with yourself. Through therapeutic yoga and yoga nidra\, we’ll honor the body as sacred space\, learning to move with care rather than force. \nWe’ll spend most of our time in longer asana sequences designed to help you notice where you hold tension\, where you resist\, and how to tend to yourself with compassion. This is practice in motion\, meeting suffering right where you are in your own body. \nYou’ll learn to respond to your body’s wisdom\, to move in ways that support rather than push\, and to practice karuna as a lived experience. We’ll close with deep rest through yoga nidra. Everyone is welcome. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! This registration will grant attendance for you and your buddy. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. Volunteering allows you to participate in our programs at no cost. To inquire about volunteering opportunities\, please fill out our inquiry form\, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:In-Person: Relax and Settle the Mind - A Sound Bath Meditation
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Relax and Settle the Mind – A Sound Bath Meditation \nwith Lisa Cooper \nFriday\, July 31st\, 2026 | 7:00pm – 9:00pm ET \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nMany of us move through our days feeling overstimulated\, mentally busy\, or disconnected from the body. In Insight meditation\, the breath is often the primary anchor—but it can sometimes be difficult to settle the mind or sustain attention. \nSound offers another way of supporting awareness. The resonant tones of the bowls provide a steady field of sensation that can make it easier to rest attention in the body and allow the mind to settle more naturally. \nThis session uses crystal singing bowls to create sustained vibrations that can be felt as well as heard\, supporting a direct\, embodied experience of meditation. The practice begins with awareness of the breath\, a body scan\, and a brief guided meditation\, followed by an extended period of sound. \nSound can serve as a gentle anchor for attention\, offering a continuous thread of awareness that supports both relaxation and presence. As the body settles\, participants may find it easier to remain with their experience moment to moment. \nParticipants may experience: \n\nA deep sense of relaxation and nervous system regulation\nGreater connection to the body as a foundation for meditation\nA quieter\, more settled mind and an increased sense of ease\n\nNo prior experience with meditation or sound baths is needed. \nJoin us to explore meditation through listening\, and to cultivate greater ease\, balance\, and presence in both practice and daily life. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity!
