SUMMARY:Friction and Free-ness: How We Meet Ourselves and the World
DESCRIPTION:Friction and Free-ness: How We Meet Ourselves and the World\n \nwith Martin Aylward\n \nWeekend of September 15th-16th\, 2018\n10am – 5pm\n \nEach moment invites us to meet life freely\, yet we easily find ourselves caught up in tension and drama\, creating unhelpful and unnecessary friction with ourselves and others. \nThis weekend retreat will both explore the friction and point to the inherent freeness at the heart of all experience. We will touch on both inner and outer\, personal and social\, including the friction in the current social and political climate and how dharma practice can help us to show up freely\, even in situations of conflict or divisiveness. \nThis event is open to all levels. \nThe registration fee includes teacher support.\n  \nRegistration:\n \nNote About Registration:\nNew York Insight Meditation Center is offering a new structure for registration. Members receive 15% off of the Sustaining Rate. \nNYI is committed to ensuring that our programs are available to all\, regardless of ability to pay. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. No financial assistance application is needed when registering for a program. \nWe offer new sliding scale fees\, and ask that you choose the highest fee you are able to afford based on your financial means. The Sustaining rate represents the actual program operating cost. If you can afford this level or higher\, you assist our efforts to offer reduced rates and support ongoing financial assistance. If you are unable to pay the Base Fee\, you can set up a payment plan or let us know how much you are able to pay at this time by emailing registration@nyimc.org. \nFor more information about our generosity policy and the sliding scale fee structure\, please click here.

SUMMARY:Yom Kippur: A Day of Silence and Reflection
DESCRIPTION:Yom Kippur: A Day of Silence and Reflection\n \nwith Jon Aaron\, Elaine Retholtz\, and Sandra Weinberg\n \nWednesday\, September 19th\, 2018 | 10am-6:30pm\, followed by a break-fast\n \nYom Kippur is the Jewish Day of Atonement\, a day when\, as a community\, Jews are asked to reflect on their actions of the past year and to ask for atonement for any actions that were unskillful. In support of this day\, NYI hosts a day of silence and reflection. \nThere will be meditations focused on the idea of right action\, the difference between guilt and remorse\, the laws of karma\, forgiveness\, and lovingkindness. There will also be an opportunity for mindful discussion on the Buddhist perspective on atonement. All are welcome to join us in this exploration. The day will end with a symbolic break-fast. \nDoors open at 9:30am. Pre-registration is required. \nThis daylong retreat is a dana (donation) based event. If you do not handle money that day for religious reasons\, you can give donations before the event or until September 21\, 2018 until 12 noon. \nRegistration:
