DESCRIPTION:A Special Benefit Event for New York Insight \nDharma in an Age of Distress: A Q&A Evening with Joseph Goldstein \nSaturday\, November 3rd\, 2018 | 7:00pm – 9:00pm at Middle Collegiate Church \nBring your questions for a rare evening with one of America’s most beloved Buddhist meditation teachers. \nMeditation practice is a journey of understanding our minds and hearts. Throughout this evening\, we will explore together how wisdom and compassion can increasingly become the guiding principles of our lives–especially in times of great stress. We will learn practical tools for deepening awareness of ourselves and others\, and explore methods for cultivating greater insight\, equanimity and kindness in the face of change and challenge. \nThe registration fee includes teacher support. If you wish to give more in addition to the registration fee\, the total (registration fees and additional contributions) will be shared between NYI and the teacher(s). \nWe have a limited amount of partial financial assistance at $30 a ticket. Please email registration@nyimc.org to request a financial assistance ticket if you cannot pay the sliding scale fees. \nRegistration:\n \nNote About Registration:\nNew York Insight Meditation Center is offering a new structure for registration. DESCRIPTION:Tricycle Movie Night at NY Insight: The Last Dalai Lama?\n \nwith the film’s director Mickey Lemle and Tricycle editor and publisher James Shaheen\n \nFriday\, November 9th\, 2018 | 6:00pm-8:30pm\n \nJoin Tricycle and New York Insight for a special screening of Mickey Lemle’s new award-winning documentary\, The Last Dalai Lama?\, in which the 14th Dalai Lama\, Tenzin Gyatso\, takes a look at his legacy as he enters the ninth decade of his life. \nRather than presenting a linear story\, the film offers an endearing\, candid window into the Tibetan Buddhist leader’s life by weaving together historical photos\, rare interviews with an all-star cast—including Thupten Jinpa\, Matthieu Ricard\, and Daniel Goleman—and archival footage from Lemle’s 1992 biopic\, Compassion in Exile. \nWhether the Dalai Lama is paying a visit to classrooms in British Columbia where students are engaging in “heart-mind” learning\, reflecting on his dramatic escape from Tibet to India in 1959\, or discussing his daily meditation practice and personal aspirations\, the film does not shy away from asking questions that are top-of-mind for many. \nOne question in particular lingers throughout: Will there be a 15th Dalai Lama? The answer may not be clear-cut\, but Lemle’s film provides viewers with plenty of food for thought. \nThe screening will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with director Mickey Lemle and Tricycle’s editor and publisher James Shaheen. \nLight snacks and refreshments will be provided.
