SUMMARY:Climate Justice Through Racial Justice March and Rally
DESCRIPTION:Climate Justice Through Racial Justice March and Rally\n \nSunday\, September 20th\, 2020 beginning at 1:00pm from Columbus Circle\n \nThe events of recent months – from the disproportionate impact of Covid-19 on Black\, Brown and Indigenous people\, to the uprisings against rampant police brutality – have shone a light\, once again\, on the racial injustices woven into our society. \nThe impacts of the climate crisis are yet another form of this injustice\, and we simply cannot address the climate crisis without addressing racism. As Hop Hopkins of the Sierra Club stated so clearly in his essay Racism is Killing the Planet\, “You can’t have climate change without sacrifice zones\, and you can’t have sacrifice zones without disposable people\, and you can’t have disposable people without racism.” As individuals and groups concerned about the climate and about justice\, we must speak out. \nJoin us for the Climate Justice Through Racial Justice March and Rally!\nSunday\, September 20\, 1pm\nKicking off from Columbus Circle\nTo find out more\, and read the march demands\, click here. \nHere are ways you can support the march:\nRSVP to join the march.\nDonate to help us purchase PPE\, art supplies for art builds\, and to cover other costs for the day.\nSpread the word about the march on social media using this toolkit.\nVolunteer to be a member of the safety team! We are looking for street marshals\, bike marshals\, street medics\, Healers\, de-escalators and experienced police interfacers. \nMEETUP LOCATION: Open grassy spot just inside the Columbus Circle entrance to Central Park at 12:30 pm. Extinction Rebellion Mindful Rebels will lead a short meditation and those who wish to march together may do so. \nTo help keep marchers safe\, all participants will be required to wear face masks. Social distancing will be encouraged. We must care for ourselves\, each other\, and our communities. \nSee you in the Streets! \n

SUMMARY:Yom Kippur: A Day of Silence and Reflection
DESCRIPTION:Yom Kippur: A Day of Silence and Reflection \nwith Elaine Retholtz and Jon Aaron \nMonday\, September 28th\, 2020 | 10:00am – 7:00pm ET \nThis year\, New York Insight will continue the annual tradition of A Day of Silence and Reflection for Yom Kippur. As an act of care and compassion for our fellow practitioners during these times it will be offered as an online event. \nWhile this will be a full day of contemplation\, meditation and community\, we are sensitive to “Zoom fatigue”. Guidance will integrate on-line community practice with self-guided “off-line” practices throughout the day. An hour-by-hour schedule will be available for all who are attending. There will be opportunities for small group discussion and a virtual break-fast at the end of the day. \nYom Kippur is a day when the Jewish community is called to reflect on their actions of the past year. Jews and non-Jews are invited to join the sangha as we meditate on right action\, the laws of karma\, forgiveness and loving-kindness. We consider the impact of Hiri and Ottappa (positive shame and “moral dread” ie losing the respect of those we hold dear) on our actions\, practice the Jewish confessional of the Vidui\, and offer love to those who we have lost. It is an opportunity to celebrate the potential in all of us to live a life free of unwholesome actions and embody the qualities of generosity\, compassion and wisdom. \nAll are welcome to join us in this exploration. While we can’t share a break-fast in person\, we encourage you to join us in a ceremonial\, virtual break-fast at the end of the day. \nThis daylong retreat is a dana (donation) based event\, with donations being directed to New York Insight. Thank you for your generosity! \nClick here to download NYI Readings for A Day of Silence and Reflection on Yom Kippur (pdf) \nClick here to download our Yom Kippur program schedule (pdf) \nPlease register here via Zoom: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYkdu6grD8oHtawGPtWC84EnrFOCzvRSsF5 \nAfter registering\, you will receive an automatic confirmation email from Zoom containing the link to join us (email from either Vivian Mac or no-reply@zoom\, titled NYI Yom Kippur Confirmation)\n \nDonations:\nAll donations for this event will go to benefit New York Insight Meditation Center.\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off. Please contact registration@nyimc.org if you need assistance. \n \nIf you have questions about your registration please read our FAQs. If your question is not addressed in the FAQs\, please email registration@nyimc.org.
