SUMMARY:Stability in the Storm: IMS invites you to a pre-election Day Meditation Sit
DESCRIPTION:Stability in the Storm: IMS invites you to a pre-election Day Meditation Sit \nwith Sharon Salzberg \nMonday\, November 2nd\, 2020 | 7:00pm – 8:00pm \nElections can be stressful during the best of times\, and this year’s presidential race is like no other in recent memory\, compounded by Covid-19\, increased awareness of racial tensions\, natural disasters\, and a shaky economy. As November 3 fast approaches\, we at IMS felt we could all likely benefit from taking a moment to pause\, breathe\, and find our balance as we experience fear and uncertainty. \nOn November 2\, the day before election Tuesday\, renowned meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg will offer an hour long program including two short\, guided meditations. The first will focus on mindfulness of the breath to cultivate calm and stability. The second\, on lovingkindness\, will aim to help restore our connection to ourselves and to one another. In this one-hour event\, Sharon will also offer words of wisdom and encouragement as we navigate this difficult time. \n“We practice in order to cultivate a sense of agency\, to understand that a range of responses is open to us\,” Salzberg writes in her book\, Real Change: Mindfulness to Heal Ourselves and Our World. “We practice to remember to breathe\, to have the space in the midst of adversity to recall our values\, what we really care about—and to find support in our inner strength\, and in one another.” \nCost: free of charge\, with a suggested donation of $5 or more if possible\, with gratitude to Insight Meditation Society for its generosity to New York Insight during these challenging times. \nRegistration:\nClick here to register for this free\, donation-based online event hosted via Insight Mediation Society and Tricycle Magazine. \n

SUMMARY:Online: Cultivating Thanksgiving
DESCRIPTION:Online: Cultivating Thanksgiving \nwith Bonnie Duran\, Ramona Peters and Jeff Haozous \nSaturday\, November 21st\, 2020 | 1:00pm – 5:00pm ET \nGiving thanks is a tradition in both Buddhism and Native American cultures. The Wampanoag people observed thanksgiving ceremonies throughout the year. This will be a day of meditation practice\, teaching\, and group discussion.
