SUMMARY:In-Person: Free Mindful Tuneup
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Free Mindful Tuneup \nwith David Grogan\n \nTuesday\, March 10th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET \nNew York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nMindful Tuneup is a free two-hour workshop for beginners and intermittent meditators looking to jump-start a more consistent practice. Just as a musician tunes their instrument for optimal sound\, you’ll explore how to tune your body and mind for meditation. That begins with finding a balanced posture that fosters steadiness\, clarity\, receptivity and a natural sense of awareness. \nThrough guided practices\, you’ll learn core meditation skills—using the breath as your tuning fork\, anchoring attention when the mind drifts\, and bringing scattered thoughts into gentle alignment. Time will also be set aside during this welcoming and inclusive workshop for questions and group reflection on common meditation challenges\, as well as how to navigate busy thoughts and distractions in daily life. \nYou’ll leave equipped with practical strategies\, fresh insights\, and lasting confidence to weave mindfulness and meditation into everyday moments\, whether you are starting fresh or seeking to deepen your practice. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below. This workshop is free\, but your dana (donations) help us sustain offerings like these. Suggested donation is $15\, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. Volunteering allows you to participate in our programs at no cost. To inquire about volunteering opportunities\, please fill out our inquiry form\, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:In-Person: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Course \nwith Margrit Pittman-Polletta \nIn-Person Orientation: Monday\, April 13th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 9:00pm\nIn-Person Course: Mondays\, April 20th – June 15th (skips June 1st)\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 9:00pm\nIn-Person Daylong: Saturday\, May 16th\, 2026 | 9:30am – 5:00pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street on the 12th Floor \n \nMindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the ground-breaking and time-tested\, scientifically researched program developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 for the University of Massachusetts Medical School. \nThis transformative course is suited for those coming to meditation for the first time or for experienced meditators who realize they have not yet integrated these practices fully into their lives. \nWhat To Expect:\nMBSR uses meditation\, mindful yoga\, and inquiry/discussion as a way of exploring the habits of the mind to discover how these patterns of reactivity become a major cause of stress and where we could intervene to change them. MBSR helps participants learn to alter their relationship with each moment of their lives and through it derive more clarity\, joy\, fulfillment\, and meaning from their lives. Classes usually have 25-30 participants but may be smaller. The course is experiential: by paying attention to what arises in daily and class practice\, and through exploring the challenges that arise and how these are met\, a supportive and safe container is created for students to feel connected and be inspired. Participants are supported by recorded guided meditations and are expected to practice 45-60 minutes of daily formal meditation as well as various informal practices. \nBenefits of MBSR:\nResearch over the past 46 years indicates that a majority of people who complete this program report a greater ability to cope more effectively with short and long term stressful situations; an increased ability to relax\, lasting decreases in physical and psychological symptoms; reduction in pain levels and enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain and most importantly a greater energy and enthusiasm for life. \nSome of the Skills People Learn in MBSR Courses: \n\nPractical coping skills to improve the ability to handle stressful situations\nTechniques for being physically and mentally relaxed and at ease\nGentle full body conditioning exercises to strengthen the body and release muscular tension\nThe ability to be increasingly aware of the interplay of mind and body in health and illness\nThe ability to face change and difficult times in life with greater ease\nGreater ability to decrease the physical\, mental and emotional effects of the societal stressors of sexism\, racism\, homophobia\, xenophobia and gender inequity among many other challenges\n\nCourse Dates: \nFree Orientation (required): Monday\, April 13th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 9:00pm\nCourse: Mondays\, April 20 – June 15 (skips June 1)\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 9:00pm\nDaylong: Saturday\, May 16\, 2026 | 9:30am – 5:00pm \nSliding Scale Course Fee: Sustaining $715 – Base $420 \nPlease choose your rate mindfully and be as generous as possible so that NYI can continue to offer financial assistance to those in need of other NYI offerings. \nIf you need financial assistance\, we have a limited amount of partial scholarships available. Email registration@nyimc.org for more info. \nParticipants may register after the orientation for this class takes place\, but must still view a recorded orientation\, complete the pre-class questionnaire and arrange a pre-class interview with the teacher. If would like to register for this course but are not able to make it to the orientation\, please email us at registration@nyimc.org so we can make the necessary arrangements with the teacher. \nSign up for the free orientation on April 13th here. \nRegister for the MBSR Course:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

\nSome of the Skills People Learn in MBSR Courses: \n\nPractical coping skills to improve the ability to handle stressful situations\nTechniques for being physically and mentally relaxed and at ease\nGentle full body conditioning exercises to strengthen the body and release muscular tension\nThe ability to be increasingly aware of the interplay of mind and body in health and illness\nThe ability to face change and difficult times in life with greater ease\nGreater ability to decrease the physical\, mental and emotional effects of the societal stressors of sexism\, racism\, homophobia\, xenophobia and gender inequity among many other challenges\n\nCourse Dates: \nFree Orientation (required): Wednesday\, April 15\, 2026 | 9:30am – 12:00pm\nCourse: Wednesdays\, April 29 – June 24 (skips June 17)\, 2026 | 9:30am – 12:00pm\nDaylong: Sunday\, May 31\, 2026 | 9:30am – 5:00pm \nSliding Scale Course Fee: Sustaining $715 – Base $420 \nPlease choose your rate mindfully and be as generous as possible so that NYI can continue to offer financial assistance to those in need of other NYI offerings.
