SUMMARY:Addiction & Recovery: The Buddha & Bill W
DESCRIPTION:Addiction & Recovery: The Buddha & Bill W \nOn Hiatus beginning in June 2019. Please check back for updates. \nFirst Wednesday of the month from 7:00pm-9:00pm \n2500 years ago the Buddha said craving and attachment are the cause of suffering. In the 1930’s Bill Wilson started the first Twelve-Step program that worked with a deep form of craving and suffering: addictions. In these monthly meetings\, we explore the ways that Buddhism and the Steps support and complement each other and can deepen our spiritual lives. The meetings include Buddhist meditation practices\, interactive exercises\, dharma talks and discussion. \nThe evenings are open to all who are interested. You need not be in a Twelve Step program nor have a background in Buddhism. \nFee by donation: Suggested starting donation is $15 but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. For this event all donations are shared between the teacher(s) and NYI.

SUMMARY:Eco Sangha
DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE: Eco Sangha \nEco Sangha is currently on hold as of 10/4/2018. We will let you know when Eco Sangha resumes. \nWednesdays from 7:00pm – 9:00pm  \nFollowing from an expansive definition of the term “ecology\,” the Eco Sangha endeavors to serve as a nexus for the engagement of New York Insight in initiatives aimed at advancing social\, economic\, and environmental justice. \nWeekly sangha meetings include a period of sitting\, reading from related texts with group discussion\, and co-creating strategic external engagements in social justice advocacy and nonviolent direct action. The Eco Sangha occasionally welcomes guest speakers to address the group on the topic of Buddhist social activism. \nPlease join us\, as we work to take our practice of boundless compassion for all beings off the cushion\, and into the world! \n“What I have been keen to add to the definition of Eco-Dharma is the argument that… ‘Eco’ in Eco-Dharma can not be just about environment or nature or what is defined as wilderness… (W)e can’t be environmental activists/advocates without paying attention to inter-dependence and intersectionality between movements.”\n– Kritee\, Zen teacher and founding board member of Rocky Mountain Ecodharma Retreat Center \nFee by donation: Suggested starting donation is $10 but whatever you offer is greatly appreciated and no one is ever turned away for lack of funds. All donations go to support NYI.
