SUMMARY:In-Person: Practicing Through the Night - A Full Moon Meditation
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Practicing Through the Night – A Full Moon Meditation \nwith a Dharma Talk by Brian Simmons \nFriday\, May 1st\, 2026 | 8:00pm – 6:00am (with 6-7am breakfast) \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nThis month’s full moon gathering coincides with Vesak\, honoring the Buddha’s birth\, awakening\, and passing. \nWe will practice together through the night in shared\, Noble Silence. This is an overnight meditation held in community\, structured in the spirit of self-retreat. While a teacher will be offering 2 short dharma talks\, the majority of the night is self-guided. Participants are invited to move between all forms of practice—sitting\, walking\, standing\, lying down\, or quiet tea meditation—as needed. \nLight snacks will be available during the break and a light breakfast and closing metta gathering will be held from 6:00–7:00am. \nThis offering is best suited for those who have previously attended a daylong sit or retreat and feel ready to sustain practice independently for an extended period. An overnight practice can stretch us. It can also be clarifying\, intimate\, and unexpectedly steadying. \nWe gather not only to sit alone\, but to sit together—each tending our own practice while quietly supporting one another. There is something profound about practicing through the dark hours in shared silence. The field of metta deepens when we commit to staying. \nPlease plan to arrive on time. Doors will close at 9:00pm. After that time\, participants may leave if needed\, but re-entry will not be permitted. \nRegistration:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Meeting the Parts That Disturb Our Peace - A Mindfulness-Based IFS Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Meeting the Parts That Disturb Our Peace – A Mindfulness-Based IFS Writing Workshop \nwith Tracy Cochran and Beej Christie Karpen \nSaturday\, May 2nd\, 2026 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nDid you ever wonder why meditative states don’t last? How moments of spacious awareness can so quickly give way to painful\, constricted states? \nThese states are often driven by our inner children—the hurt\, wounded ones and the slightly older ones trying their best to defend them. \nThis unique half-day workshop weaves together guided mindfulness meditation\, reflective writing\, and gentle inquiry. Through the transformative framework of IFS (Internal Family Systems)\, participants are invited to cultivate a compassionate relationship with their inner world. \nOur inner parts will be welcomed and gently investigated—allowing a deeper wisdom and awareness to emerge. In IFS this wise\, embodied Presence is called Self. In Buddhism this same spacious state is called No Self—in both it is an attention that heals us into wholeness. \nThis workshop is suitable for both experienced meditators and newcomers\, offering practical tools for daily life\, creative expression\, and compassionate self-understanding. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and you will have the opportunity to donate more after the program.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \nBring a Buddy: If you are a member of our Circle of Friends\, you’re invited to bring a Dharma buddy to this program for no additional cost. Simply select “1” from the drop-down next to the Bring a Buddy level\, and enter your special discount code (provided in your Circle of Friends welcome email) to reduce the price to that of a single\, standard registration. This registration will grant attendance for you and your buddy. \n \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nPlease register below for online participation via Zoom. SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, May 6th\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body? \nIn fact\, tai chi is often referred to as “meditation in motion.” This practice is one of slowing down while still feeling energized\, and learning to relax our muscles while maintaining precision. \nThis practice is well-suited to do before sitting meditation—tai chi is one way to get in touch with the wholeness of the breathing body. Some benefits of tai chi include improved muscle strength\, balance\, and flexibility\, and an increase in energy and focus. \nAll are welcome! No previous experience with tai chi is required to join the sessions. You are free to sign up for a single session\, the whole series\, or anything in-between. This series runs from May 6th through May 27th. \nThis offering is part of New York Insight’s Mindful Movement series. \nRegistration:\nPlease register below for one or more sessions in this series.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: The Universe in a Hand – Encountering Our True Nature through the Four Immeasurable Minds of Love
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: The Universe in a Hand – Encountering Our True Nature through the Four Immeasurable Minds of Love \nPart of The Body Remembers Freedom Series\n \nwith Kaira Jewel Lingo and Linds Roberts\n \nThursday\, May\, 7th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET (optionally\, bring your dinner at 5:30pm to enjoy in community) \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor\n \nThe teaching of Indra’s Net reveals a universe of radiant interconnection\, where each of us is a unique jewel\, reflecting and being reflected by the whole vast net of existence. This session invites us to feel this truth in our bodies and hearts through play and presence. \nWe’ll engage in a practice of meeting others eye-to-eye in brief\, heart-opening encounters that invite us to see ourselves and each other as expressions of boundless love—cultivating kindness\, compassion\, joy\, and equanimity. Then\, through a simple drawing exercise\, we’ll map the visible and invisible elements—the people\, places\, and beings—that weave together to create the miracle of who we are. Together\, we remember that we are not separate individuals\, but a community of beings in communion. \nIf you are joining in person at NY Insight\, you are optionally invited to arrive at 5:30pm and bring your dinner. We will eat together for a few minutes in mindfulness and then have time to share and connect before the class begins at 6:30pm. \nThis session will include a simple drawing exercise. If you are joining via Zoom\, please have some paper and a pencil/pen/crayons/markers (whatever you prefer to use) on hand. \nThis workshop is part of The Body Remembers Freedom\, a monthly series that brings together meditation\, dharma\, and embodied practice in a way that is relational\, grounded\, and alive. Each session includes time for meditation and contemplation\, a dharma talk or shared inquiry\, and InterPlay\, a playful and powerful practice using movement\, voice\, storytelling\, and deep listening to access the wisdom of the body. \nParticipants are supported to be: \n\nMore grounded and connected to their bodies and to one another\nMore accountable to themselves and to community\nReconnected to joy\, creativity\, and inner resource\nBetter able to meet life\, and themselves\, with compassion and presence\n\nIn times that can feel scary\, overwhelming\, or isolating\, these gatherings offer a place to put the phone down\, release accumulated stress\, and reconnect with what feels trustworthy and alive. We gather to remember the sacred in ordinary experience and to be held in the support of community. \nNo experience with meditation or movement is required. You are welcome exactly as you are\, with curiosity and a willingness to be present. \nThe Body Remembers Freedom is offered monthly on the first or second Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm ET and is offered in a hybrid format. During the InterPlay portion of the evening\, Linds Roberts guides participants joining on Zoom\, while Kaira Jewel guides those attending in person. The full group then comes back together for the closing practice. You are welcome to register for a single session\, select multiple dates\, or join the full series at a discounted rate. \nSessions are recorded and shared with all registrants after the program\, so you are welcome to sign up even if you cannot attend live. \nRegister for one session or the full series (at a discount!) below.\n2026: | May 7 | June 18 | July 9 | August 6 \nIn-Person Registration:\nIn-Person Single Session\nIn-Person Full Series\n  \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nOnline Single Session\nOnline Full Series\n  \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Coming Home to the Body - A Daylong Meditation Retreat
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Coming Home to the Body – A Daylong Meditation Retreat \nwith Chas DiCapua \nSaturday\, May 9th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 5:00pm ET \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nWe spend much of our lives with attention directed outward\, seeking fulfillment through distraction\, consumption\, and busyness. The Buddha described the gap between what we are experiencing and where our attention is as stress. \nThis daylong retreat offers an alternative. Through sitting and walking meditation\, the Resident Teacher at the Insight Meditation Society\, Chas DiCapua will guide participants in body-based awareness practices\, including awareness of the breath\, that bring attention back to the present moment. When the mind settles into the body rather than chasing after the next thing\, we can begin to access qualities already present in us: sympathetic presence\, expansiveness\, and ease. \nThis retreat is suitable for practitioners at all levels who want to deepen their relationship to the body as a foundation for meditation practice and daily life. \nNote: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program\, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time. \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for in-person participation. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! SUMMARY:In-Person: Mindful Kids Series - Mother's Day Gathering
DESCRIPTION:Amy Selzer photo (right) © Tom LeGoff \nIn-Person: Mindful Kids Series – Mother’s Day Gathering \nwith Ingrid Norton and Amy Selzer \nSunday\, May 10th\, 2026 | 2:00pm – 3:30pm ET \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nOur Mindful Children’s Series is offering a special Mother’s Day family gathering with storyteller\, writer\, and Myth Lab founder Ingrid Norton who will share ancient stories of great mother goddesses from around the world—stories of love\, courage\, creativity\, and the beginnings of life. Through lively\, participatory storytelling\, families will journey into the first oceans\, the rich earth where humans were formed\, and worlds shaped by imagination. \nTogether\, children and grown-ups will listen\, wonder\, and help bring these stories to life. After the storytelling\, children will create their own myths through art and imagination\, while parents and caregivers gather with Buddhist teacher Amy Selzer for a conversation on mindful parenting\, care for our world\, and nurturing hopeful futures together. There will be time for sharing and mindful snacks after the program. \nThis is the fifth installment in our 2026 INSIGHT FAMILY PROGRAM — a series of monthly gatherings for parents\, caregivers and children! \nNew York Insight offers monthly events for families to gather and engage mindfully with different themes\, like kindness\, courage and peacemaking. Each month’s gathering will feature a mix of storytelling or read-alouds by authors\, as well as mindful movement\, dialogue\, meditation and play. We will begin in one big group for a check in\, listen to storytelling\, and explore the monthly theme together. Afterwards\, children are invited to meet with teachers\, work on an art project\, experience the joy of community\, spaciousness and mindful play. \nParents and caregivers will have the opportunity to meditate together and participate in a dialogue guided by a dharma teacher to explore the joys and challenges of parenting. \nView our flyer for dates and details about other sessions in this series:\nMindful Kids Series – January-May 2026 \nRegistration:\nThe recommended child age range for this program is 4 – 15. One adult per family may attend free. For example\, if two adults and two children will be attending from your family\, please select 2 Child tickets and 1 Additional Adult ticket. \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n\nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. Volunteering allows you to participate in our programs at no cost. To inquire about volunteering opportunities\, please fill out our inquiry form\, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

SUMMARY:In-Person and Online: Queer Eye(s) on the Precepts
DESCRIPTION:In-Person and Online: Queer Eye(s) on the Precepts \nwith Leslie Booker\, Jay Michaelson\, and Jacoby Ballard \nFour Tuesday evening classes plus a Saturday half-day retreat\nEvening Classes: Tuesdays\, February 17th\, March 17th\, May 12th\, and June 16th 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET\nHalf-Day Retreat: Saturday\, April 18th\, 2026 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET\nSign up for the full course\, a single session\, or anything in-between! \nIn-Person Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nThe Five Precepts form the foundation of Buddhist ethics in the insight tradition. Yet for queer people in 21st century America\, they can also be a little…. fraught. What counts as “sexual misconduct” (if that’s even the right term to use)? Do all drugs “lead to confusion”? What counts as “harsh language” in a culture that is often serving tea? \nIn this 5 month series\, we’re going to take an honest\, deep\, and participatory dive into the precepts. We’ll explore where they serve us\, and where they may not. We’ll work with the complexities that come with any 2500-year-old tradition\, particularly one which often promotes monasticism as an ideal. \nThere will be a ½ day retreat mid way through the course\, and we’ll also have the opportunity to meet in small groups and with a teacher in between the monthly sessions for support to deepen our personal understanding and to cultivate spiritual friendships. \nUltimately\, we hope to arrive at multiple ways of navigating ethics and community together. (And since we take an expansive definition of queerness\, you’re welcome to join if that word speaks to your experience.) \nDescriptions for each class session appear below. You are welcome to sign up for the full course\, or for individual sessions. \nClass 1 – Protecting Life (Tuesday\, Feb. 17\, 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET)\nBeyond “not killing”\, what might it look like to protect life and cultivate non-harming (including non-self-harm) in our violent\, oppressive and extractive society? \nClass 2 – Cultivating Generosity (Tuesday\, March 17\, 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET)\nHow can queer communities cultivate generosity\, mutual aid\, and collective care in a society built on commerce (and theft)? How might this be expressed in creating cultures of belonging? \nClass 3/Half-Day Retreat – The One about Sex (Saturday\, April. 18\, 10:00am – 1:00pm ET)\nWhat does it mean to engage in sexual relationships ethically? How do queer relationship structures and practices – including polyamory\, kink\, open relationships\, asexuality\, and periods of celibacy – fit within the precepts? How do we lovingly navigate relationships with exes and former lovers in often tightly-knit communities? \nClass 4 – Skillful Speech (Tuesday\, May 12\, 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET)\nWhat does “right speech” look like in communities where accountability is important\, in which conflict is not abuse\, and yet where harm can still be done by harmful or hurtful speech\, by gossip\, or even by idle chatter? \nClass 5 – What is an intoxicant? (Tuesday\, June 16\, 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET)\nQueer people have a wide variety of relationships (often fraught) toward substances. What might healthy relationships to substances look like? What forms of substance use block the heart from belonging to one other\, and what might empower it? Other than substances\, what intoxicants might we encounter in our lives (e.g. dating apps\, social media)? \n \nIn-Person Registration:\nPlease register below for the full course or individual sessions. If you are able\, registering at the “Supporter” level enables others to attend at the “Subsidized” level. Thank you for your generosity! (Please note that the registration price includes a base level of teacher support\, and all additional contributions will go to the class’s teachers.) \nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\n \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window. \n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities. SUMMARY:In-Person: Tai Chi - Meditation in Motion
DESCRIPTION:In-Person: Tai Chi – Meditation in Motion \nwith Marijke Eliasberg \nWednesday\, May 13th\, 2026 | 5:30pm – 6:30pm \nLocation: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street\, 12th Floor \n \nIn the Insight\, or vipassana\, meditation tradition\, we talk a lot about noticing the breath\, but what about the rest of the body? SUMMARY:Online: Free Seven Day Urban Meditation Retreat Info Session and Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Online: Free Seven Day Urban Meditation Retreat Info Session and Q&A \nwith Leslie Booker and Dalila Bothwell \nThursday\, May 14th\, 2026 | 6:30pm – 7:30pm ET \n \nIn June\, New York Insight is holding its second-ever non-residential retreat\, designed to help integrate practice into your daily life and life into your practice. \nWe often think of retreat as a chance to get away—traveling to a quiet meditation center in a serene natural setting. But for those of us who live in cities\, this can create a split: retreat happens there\, life happens here. Practicing together in the same city where we live\, work\, and navigate daily challenges creates a powerful opportunity: we can begin to carry the clarity and presence of retreat into the rhythms of ordinary life. \nDuring this live Q&A session\, teachers Leslie Booker and Dalila Bothwell will explain the format of this summer’s retreat and answer any questions you may have about embarking on a weeklong commitment to meditation practice. \nReserve your spot now for a special sneak peek into this weeklong retreat! \nAttendance at this event is encouraged but not required to register for June’s retreat. \nSave the date! The retreat itself will be held June 13-19\, 2026. \nOnline (Zoom) Registration:\nIf you are registering via a mobile device such as a phone or tablet\, you can scroll right and left and up and down within the below form if it is partially obscured or cut off.\nCLICK HERE to open the registration form in a new browser window.\n \nVolunteering \nAll of our programs rely on volunteers to support our teachers and staff with various tasks and responsibilities.
