Gary has been practicing insight meditation in the Theravada tradition since 2010. From Sylvia Boorstein’s wisdom and guidance, he strives to practice “everyday mindfulness” from the moment he wakes each day. He has been studying the open awareness meditation style of Sayadaw U Tejaniya as introduced to him by Alexis Santos, Steve Armstrong and Carol Wilson since 2015.
Gary’s recent professional experience includes designing and managing programs at Spirit Rock just north of San Francisco California where he developed and implemented management systems and non-residential programs for their new community meditation center. For the past two years, he has been serving as a manager at the Vallecitos Mountain Retreat Center which offers deep dharma retreats on a 135-acre ranch in the middle of the 330k acre Carson National Forest in northern New Mexico. When he’s not in the meditation hall, you are almost sure to find him on the trails of our treasured National Parks System. Gary will be working remotely for NYI.
