In-Person: Sacred Earth Sangha—Activism on the Path
Thursday, March 19th, 2026 | 6:30pm-8:30pm ET
Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street, on the 12th Floor
Before we head back outdoors in a few weeks, we’ll gather once more at the Center to reconnect with the original intention of NYI’s Sacred Earth Sangha: a community grounded in deep practice and conscious engagement with the intertwined climate and ecological crises, along with the social justice issues they touch. While our emphasis in recent times has been contemplative nature practice, our commitment has always been to meet these urgent realities with wisdom, compassion, and courage.
At this gathering, led by Maho Kawachi and Ben Dillon, Tom Carling, a founder of SES, will offer reflections and guide a conversation on the intersection of activism and Dharma practice, and on the role of socially engaged Buddhism in our time. We hope you’ll join us.
In April, SES will resume gathering in the city’s green spaces, where we practice attuning to the living earth—trees, rivers, birds, soil—even in the midst of the urban landscape. These walks invite intimacy with the natural world, helping us cultivate presence, gratitude, and wonder in everyday surroundings.
Space is limited, so please register to reserve your spot.
All are welcome. No previous meditation experience is required.
