In-Person: Tibetan Buddhist Art Class – Drawing the Mudras of Green Tara and White Tara

with Carmen Mensink

Thursday, June 11th, 2026 | 1:00pm – 4:00pm ET

Location: New York Insight at 115 West 29th Street, 12th Floor

Mudras are special, graceful hand gestures used by enlightened beings, each with its own meaning.

In this workshop you will learn how to draw the mudras of Green Tara and White Tara according to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition of thangka (scroll paintings).

Green and White Tara are the most famous female Buddhas; you could say they’re sisters. Green Tara stands for Active Compassion, and White Tara for Longevity.

The workshop starts with a lecture where you’ll learn about Tara’s mudras and their meanings. Afterward, you’ll get to work on drawing them yourself, using the traditional ‘grids’ that have been passed down from teacher to student in Carmen’s lineage for centuries, and that include the correct proportions.

You’ll return home with a beautiful drawing and a wealth of new knowledge!

This workshop is suitable for everyone, including beginners with no drawing experience. The use of all materials is included.

Space and materials are limited so please register early to reserve your spot.
