Online: Overcoming Deep Grief – The Gift of a Broken Heart
with Bryan Welch
Thursday, April 23rd, 2026 | 6:30pm – 8:30pm ET
Grief can be profoundly disorienting and traumatic. Yet it can also open our hearts, strengthening our empathy, affection and compassion for other people. It may even open us up to new forms of joy.
Bryan Welch embarked on his own journey through deep grief at the loss of his 25-year-old son to addiction. His acclaimed new book The Gift of a Broken Heart: How Our Grief Can Connect Us (New Harbinger) shares how the loss destroyed his self-esteem, but at the same time deepened his meditation practice and opened his heart.
In the depths of his grief, he discovered that his new vulnerability brought unexpected feelings of warmth, kinship and compassion toward other people. This, as much as the devastation, is part of his son’s legacy.
Join us for a special evening exploring how grief, the thing we desperately try to avoid, can become a profound teacher, and how acknowledging our shared vulnerability can help heal the things that separate us from one another.
