Online: How to Thrive in Hard Times

with Stephen Fulder

Sunday, January 11th, 2026 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET

We are faced with ever more challenging daily life situations. There is growing conflict and insecurity at the personal, political, social and planetary levels. We are sensitive souls, and can easily feel overwhelmed, helpless and sometimes lost. For some of us it can be hard to settle and meditate.

How can such situations be our wake-up call? How can we find equanimity and steadiness—to be like an island in the stormy seas—as in the classic Buddhist metaphor? How can wisdom and compassion that is less personal, more universal and limitless actually be a source of empowerment that can help us to go out and make a difference?

Stephen will be bringing some of his experiences and reflections after 30 years as a leading dharma teacher in the thick of Middle East conflict.

Note: This program will be recorded. The recording will be sent to all registrants after the program, so please feel free to sign up even if you cannot join in real time.

Stephen Fulder

Born in 1946 in London, Stephen was closely involved in the 1960s culture, studied at Oxford University and obtained a PhD. He has been practising largely within the Theravada Buddhist framework since 1976, together with long-term inspiration from Dzogchen and Advaita teachings. Stephen is the founder and senior teacher of the Israel Insight Society, which is the leading dharma and mindfulness organisation in Israel. He has been teaching intensively for 30 years, mostly in Israel, but also internationally, usually 10 retreats a year, plus courses and classes.

He has been leading peace-building and conflict management initiatives and programs at the front lines of the Israel-Palestinian conflict for many years, and continues to guide peace-builders on how to develop the tools, capacities and attitudes, and the wise heart of the dharma, that are needed in peace-building in the most challenging of circumstances. He has had 16 books published, including the recent dharma books: The Five Powers and How to Thrive in Hard Times: A Buddhist Manual.
