In-Person: Summer Sunday Sangha in Central Park
with Felicia Dickerson and Kathy Ferrara
Sunday, July 26th, 2026 | 10:00am – 12:00pm ET, followed by optional BYO picnic
Location: Northern side of Central Park (register for exact location)
Connect with your meditation community in parks across the boroughs this summer! We will engage in meditation and relational practices, then enjoy a shared BYO picnic (optional).
This Manhattan gathering is the first of three outdoor, community events to celebrate the diversity of NYIMC’s community throughout New York City. Join us this summer to meditate outside and to meet your NYIMC sanghas across the boroughs.
New York Insight Community Steward Kathy Ferrara and BIPOC Sangha Practice Leader Felicia Dickerson join together to offer a morning meditation in the park, as well as the opportunity to engage in community activities and enjoy social time in our city’s beautiful Central Park.
Beginning at 10:00am, we will meditate together in nature, then move into relational activities to engage with new and old sangha friends. The event will end at 12:00pm, when you’re welcome to join our BYO Picnic. Feel free to bring your own meal or something refreshing to share.
We encourage you to bring a blanket, chair, or whatever you may need to support your practice in an outdoor setting.
All are welcome to join this event, whether you’re a longtime community member and practitioner or brand new to meditation and New York Insight. We are looking forward to seeing you this summer. And look out for our next Summer Sangha Sunday this August in Astoria Park!

Felicia Dickerson came to meditation through Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction courses at UCLA’s Mindfulness Awareness Research Center in 2011. Since then she has deepened her practice in sangha with Against the Stream, in retreat at Insight Meditation Society, and through courses at NY Insight, the Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, and Spirit Rock.
Kathy has been practicing Insight Meditation at NYIMC since 2010. She started volunteering early on and often speaks of how her volunteer work is what has made NYI her spiritual home and community. With 40 years of experience working in theater as well as 37 years as a Director of Recreation, Volunteers and Spiritual Care in Long Term Care Nursing Homes she brings a wide array of experience in planning and managing a variety of successful special events, theater/performance projects and fundraisers. Kathy’s practice at NYIMC has led her to be ordained as an Interfaith Minister as well as opened up the journey towards Chaplaincy work with the elder community.
