In-Person: Day of Remembering Our Interdependence

with Mahasangha NYC

Sunday, July 12th, 2026 | Full walk: 8:00am – 8:00pm / Culminating gathering: 5:00pm – 7:00pm

Location: across NYC / Culminating gathering at Socrates Sculpture Park

The Engaged Buddhists of NYI along with NYIMC, in partnership with Mahasangha NYC, would like to invite you to join a very special event: a full day of practice in pilgrimage across the five boroughs of New York City, taking place on Sunday, July 12th.

This gathering was born earlier this spring, when a circle of Buddhist friends — practitioners from many traditions, many of whom identify as engaged Buddhists and activists — sat together and shared what was arising in their hearts. From that circle, an idea emerged: a day to come together not in protest, but in deep commitment to our collective belonging — and in honest witness to the harm being done in our city and our country, past and present.

Together, participants will walk, sit, and chant — moving through the city mindfully. The day will include stops at the African Burial Ground and Foley Square in Manhattan, and the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where many ICE detainees are currently being held.

We encourage you to join all or any part of the day. If you’d like to meet up with us, the Engaged Buddhists of NYI will be fully attending the final gathering at Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens, where the walk concludes with food, music, and poetry.
