Now Online: Tuesday Dharma Gathering

with Angela Dews

Tuesday, April 21st, 2020 | 7:00pm-9:00pm ET

Due to the rising concern about the COVID-19 pandemic, NYI is transitioning into online programming. For the foreseeable future, NYI will no longer hold in-person public programs, sanghas and community meetings. The major reason for our closing is of course the health and safety of our teachers and community of yogis, as well as to support the larger efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. We hold our mission to provide refuge for our sangha dearly, especially during these challenging times when connection to one another is all the more important.

Please check our website calendar for further updates regarding this sangha and other programs. Info about online access will be listed under the description below.

The Tuesday Dharma Gathering provides an introduction to Insight Meditation, as well as an opportunity to meditate in a supportive environment. These teacher-led gatherings offer the opportunity to meet teachers, hear a dharma talk, and participate in a dialogue about how to apply the principles of Buddhist meditation to our daily lives.

About this week’s topic, from Angela Dews:

I think we can enter the Braham Vihara practice through mudita, empathetic joy, today. I can’t get to metta, loving kindness, if it’s directed from somewhere outside my own heart and denies my grief and anger. I can’t let in karuna, compassion, unless my heart is clear. But, even at the distance, we are learning and pausing to share joy in so many things. And then, perhaps, we can find not only love and compassion and relief but the freedom of upekkha, equanimity.

If you are new to New York Insight or an experienced meditator, we encourage you to attend this online community gathering. (While we work through the kinks while we transition this program online, temporarily we will not be holding the usual beginner’s orientation.) Invite your friends, all are welcome!
