This evening of meditation and book signing is based on Loch Kelly’s new book, The Way of Effortless Mindfulness.

In one Buddhist tradition, meditation is taught in two stages. The first is deliberate mindfulness, which includes one-pointed focus and nonjudgmentally observing the changing contents of our mind and body. The second practice is called effortless mindfulness, not because no initial effort is made, but because of the discovery of an awareness that is already awake and able to focus effortlessly.



“Effortless mindfulness” is an advanced yet simple form of mindfulness available to us in the midst of our busy lives. In The Way of Effortless Mindfulness, Loch teaches that when you “unhook” awareness from chattering thoughts, you can access a peaceful mind and a naturally embodied wakefulness. From this heartful space, students report that wise action comes easily and compassion for all of life is freely available.

The registration fee includes teacher support. If you wish to give more in addition to the registration fee, the total (registration fees and additional contributions) will be shared between NYI and the teacher(s).

New York Insight Meditation Center is offering a new structure for registration. Members receive 15% off of the Sustaining Rate via a code provided in the membership email confirmation.

NYI is committed to ensuring that our programs are available to all, regardless of ability to pay. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. No financial assistance application is needed when registering for a program.

We offer new sliding scale fees, and ask that you choose the highest fee you are able to afford based on your financial means. The Sustaining rate represents the actual program operating cost. If you can afford this level or higher, you assist our efforts to offer reduced rates and support ongoing financial assistance. If you are unable to pay the Base Fee, you can set up a payment plan or let us know how much you are able to pay at this time by emailing registration@nyimc.org.

Loch Kelly

Loch Kelly, MDiv, LCSW, is the author of the newly released The Way of Effortless Mindfulness and other award-winning books. Loch has been a leading meditation teacher, psychotherapist, and seminar leader for more than 25 years and is affiliated with Adyashanti. Loch has worked in community mental health and counseled family members after 9/11. Founder of the nonprofit Open-Hearted Awareness Institute, Loch collaborates with neuroscientists at Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, and NYU to study how awareness training can enhance compassion and well-being. lochkelly.org
