Finding My Spiritual Home

by Erin O’Connor, NYI Community Member

In September 2013, I attended a retreat for women on the west coast. A big takeaway from that retreat was how much I really needed to find a spiritual home – to have people who are on the path and can offer me friendship, community and guidance. A teacher at the retreat recommended New York Insight, so I showed up and was welcomed. Each year, I have had more and deeper connections – including our Brooklyn sangha, daylong programs, MBSR, and this year, I became a volunteer at New York Insight! This allows me to give to others what NYI has given to me.

Recently, I retired from a long career in health care. One of my dear clients asked my colleague what he could get for me to show his appreciation for all the work we accomplished together over the years. Knowing I wasn’t looking for more stuff, my colleague just asked me what I wanted. It took me a minute, but then I said, you know – what would mean so much to me would be for my client to donate to NYI in my honor. Our sangha is my spiritual home, and as I leave a career I’ve loved – my work home – I cannot think of a better way to celebrate than to help support NYI, which I’m sure I’ll be leaning on in the coming months of my life transition! It’s a wonderful circle of support and I am honored to be part of this community.

We need people to support us in many ways – through time, donations and ongoing financial support through our Circle of Friends. This campaign is focused on expanding the Circle.

Please join us by giving at the level that brings you joy, a joy we share together on the path with all of our Friends at New York Insight. Click here for more information about becoming a member.
