Radical Honesty in the Face of Crisis
An Evening with Brother Man

Monday, February 8th, 2021 | 7:00pm – 9:00pm ET

Hosted by Sebene Selassie, Lin Wang Gordon, and Jon Aaron

Brother Man (Man translated from Vietnamese means “Fulfillment”) is a monastic ordained in the Plum Village tradition who has stepped out of traditional monastery life, seeking to engage in community activism around the global climate crisis and BLM. This evening, Brother Man will share with us his extraordinary journey and the path of deep Dharma practice and activism he has embraced in New York City for this past year and a half.

The NYI Sacred Earth Sangha is a community formed around deep practice and conscious engagement of the challenges of the climate crisis. Please join hosts Sebene Selassie, Lin Wang Gordon and Jon Aaron, as we invite monthly guest speakers and teachers to explore together what it means to meet our current reality with kindness and clarity, compassion and wisdom.

Brother Man

Brother Man began his spiritual journey with baptism at age 28. He was ordained by Thich Nhat Hanh at Plum Village in 2007 and received the Dharma teacher lamp transmission in 2016. Currently he is supporting communities and friends active in resisting and responding to the global climate crisis in the NYC area.

His greatest joy is seeing people (including himself) heal and transform and open up to love in all kinds of wonderful ways. His dream is fostering and supporting all kinds of embodied communities of resilience a little bit everywhere—communities that are engaged in deep healing and radical justice—helping to evolve consciousness and shift culture. He values cultivating spiritual friendship and enjoys supporting people with mentoring and trauma healing practice. (He is currently training in Somatic Experiencing). Brother Man loves practicing and playing outdoors, connecting to the land and the flow of life, and experimenting with simple ways of living. He loves learning, and likes to integrate wisdom from many streams: Interpersonal Neurobiology, Non-violent Communication, the Christian tradition.
