In-Person and Online: Discover Your Love and Be a Force for Good – Embodying the Brahma Viharas

with Kimberly Brown

Saturday, March 30th, 2024 | 10:00am – 1:00pm ET

In Person Location: The Balance Arts Center at 51 W 30th St 3rd floor, New York, NY

Much of the inequity and harm that humans cause results from loving selectively, picking and choosing who deserves love and who doesn’t. Thus, one path to foster greater altruism, cooperation and societal harmony in the world is to follow the Buddha’s teaching to love indiscriminately and boundlessly. This is especially true today, in a time of increased divisions and violence.

This workshop is designed to help you develop your capacity to love, so that you can be a force for good in the world. We will explore the “divine abodes”—lovingkindness, compassion, appreciative joy, and equanimity—as forms of love that can guide our thoughts, speech, and behavior, so that we can create happier relationships, make wiser decisions, and take beneficial actions for all. We will learn how to recognize and develop our inherent capacities for love, and notice the obstacles and limiting beliefs that prevent us from opening the heart. And we will connect those capacities of the heart to taking skillful actions for ourselves and the world.

This program will have periods of discussion, Q&A, and guided meditation. No experience is necessary. Beginners and experienced meditators are welcome.
