Being a Sacred Warrior: Lessons from Standing Rock

with Thanissara

Monday, December 14th, 2020 | 7:00pm-8:30pm ET

These days, the clarion call of humanity’s higher dream, struggling to be fully birthed, grows ever louder. This call invites commitment to the path of Sacred Warriorship. An approach informed by both Indigenous wisdom and Buddhadharma, which have much in common. What can we learn through the shifts of consciousness they enable as we integrate that understanding into our actions within the challenges we face today? How can we become Sacred Warriors?

For this session of the SES we are delighted to host Thanissara, who’s deeply engaged in activism informed by decades of Buddhist practice and teaching, her time at Standing Rock, and with Baba Mandaza Kandemwa of Zimbabwe.

The evening will include a short meditation, dharma talk, discussion, and closing ritual. Please prepare a shrine/altar space in your home for the closing ritual, placing special objects that support your aspiration toward Spiritual Warriorship. Please also take some time to contemplate an intention to bring to the ritual.

Thanissara a Buddhist nun in the Thai school of Ajahn Chah for 12 years, is a Buddhist practitioner for over 40 years and a Dharma teacher for 30 years. She is co-founder of Dharmagiri Sacred Mountain Retreat in South Africa and Sacred Mountain Sangha in the U.S. She is an author and poet. Her recent book is Time To Stand Up, A Buddhist Manifesto for Our Earth.
