This 8-week course, developed by caregivers for caregivers, offers a gradual, gentle way to move from the exclusivity of stress from caregiving to a greater field of being: resiliency, vitality, and an enjoyment of life again. Taking care of a spouse, aging relative, friend or child is physically, emotionally and spiritually demanding. Research shows it is high on the list of one of the most stressful experiences in our lives. Without skillful means, it can compromise our health and harden our hearts.

This course is adapted from Jon Kabat Zen’s elegantly structured Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) that teaches mindfulness, the many forms of meditation and skillfull ways to understand stress, within the synergy of a like-minded community. This course focuses on the caregiver’s concerns: how mindfulness softens the busy mind of to-do’s and the internal critic, helps find restorative moments of personal time, and ways to include self-care.

Drawing from contemporary neuroscience, this course investigates the benefits of short meditations and guided imagery, breathing exercises, movements, regular stress reducing practices throughout the day, conscious eating, the benefits of sleeping well, as well as the strength of compassion towards the self and other. Learning with and from each other is the benefit of a like-minded community. We all know the caregiving pitfalls. The journey is a given; the path is a choice.
